1999 R129 SL320 - Glojo?

I like the car in teh ad and wouldn't be put off by either the wood colour or the light leather. The light interior suits the car and that red is very nice.

As far as it being a 320 as opposed to a 500 I don't see that as an issue at all, in fact it will definately be a bonus at the pumps.
I can see that as fuel prices continue to rise the 500 might become a liability due to it's drinking habit.

If you like it have it inspected and buy it if Ok, then buy a different wood pack if really required, bearing in mind that teh dark wood may not suit the red exterior.

That's the problem, my heart says yes, if it was local, then I would definitely inspect it. There are three days remaining, my brain says let it go. My heart says get it checked. :o :o

The wood issue is a personal taste item, my personal opinion is that the white interior blends to much with the light plastic. I personally prefer something with more of a contrast?? (If that is the right word??) The dark wood will highlight different items. As I say, it is a personal thing.

Our new neighbours have an identical to ours Mercedes 211 Avantgarde estate in teallite blue, they have a very dark interior, they like it. We have a very light interior, we like it. Each to their own, and I'm sure we are both right in our choice. (Both have the very dark wood :) )

I respect your input and understand what your saying.

Thanks,
John

Well John if I was looking for an SL for the missus this would be the one. Subject to her approval of the colour, the interior (which I like from a feminine point of view) and the engine size i'd go for it,
best of luck,
Graeme

Agree with you that the contrast thing works well ... dark interior with lighter paintwork & vice versa ... (Silver seems to go well with both :D) Good luck with finding the right one for you ... although you won't go wrong with any R129 - they are all great cars.

Go for it

I like it ,I think the colours go well together.
if i was after one i would buy it :D

The difference is only around 3 MPG - for a low mileage car that isn't worth worrying about.

Added pictures of my interior for your viewing Glojo in the Members Gallery.
Apologies for the dirt ;), unfortunately this was how it was when bought :(

Very nice car and I can see why you are so proud of it.

The brain is starting to kick in over this car and sadly the owners live approximately 230 miles away. That creates all sorts of problems, particulary seeing, or eventually the collection!!!

How annoying then that they stopped making them. This car clearly has optional mats that are definitely not black. (I am not referring to the blue piece of cloth)

My heart is still saying if this car goes for the right price it might be worth considering. I would definitely want to buy a darker wood pack, including the wood door inserts. Blinking annoying it is so far away.

changing the wood is expensive. Don't buy one with a view to changing the wood inserts. Will cost you in time money and aggravation.

Jono, where are the bucket seats in the back, or did you take them out?

Rear seats were an optional extra on the smaller-engined SLs.

Thanks for that, it is a great help, as my heart is still trying to rule the brain. 'Stats' estimation is looking good, it might even be on the conservative side. At present the car is at £15000, I would expect a last minute bidding frenzy and am still monitoring it, but your post has been most helpful.

Regards,
John

Rear child seats were standard on all cars ('99 model year anyway), you could opt out of them but you didn't get any money back.

Perhaps they were later, but certainly up to 1997 they were a cost option on the SL280 and SL320. £971 for cloth seats, and £1360 for leather.

If you specified the Bose sound system the standard rear seats were removed from the 500/600/SL60 and you didn't get any credit - maybe that's what you were thinking of?

No, my price list specifically lists them as standard equipment on the SL280 upwards - as was leather trim. The standard equipment all went up in 1999, which is another reason to buy a later car - and of course Mobilo Life.

You could delete the seats in favour of storage bins under the parcel shelf.

OK, saw your edit re. '99 onwards. Jono's car is a '98 SL320, so presumably the rear seats would have been a cost option.

Interesting that on the pre-'99 SL500/SL600/SL60 you didn't have the option of having rear storage bins in lieu of seats!

No - his car is a '99 model year so would have been no-cost (and my edit was before you posted your next comment ;) ).

I stand corrected :)

Didn't see your edit until after I'd posted.
