2 Stroke oil in Diesel

You don't need an upper cylinder lubricant in a diesel engine, the diesel acts as a lubricant.

But that's rather the point; the low sulphur diesel lubricates less due either to the lower sulphur content, or the chemistry employed to reduce the sulphur, hence the perceived need to increase lubricity.

Works for me; see much earlier posts months ago and posts on the other side.

Ive been running two stroke in my mapped octavia tdi for 25k now and it runs so smooth and never smokes i will be putting it in my C320 cdi next.

I prefer to stick with Millers Diesel additive (Diesel Power Ecomax is its current name).
No risks of damage and definitely does the trick.
As DM says - More economic if bought in bulk.

Will get some of that first to tri in the C320 cdi

In a similar vein I have heard of atf being used as an additive. Discuss.

If all these additives are so brilliant why haven't Shell or BP or someone else in the fuel making business added them as a standard ingredient to their fuel?

Cost? I don't know, but the difference between "economy" diesel and "premium" diesel seems massive in my car.
Performance wise, I don't think there is much in it but it is noticeably quieter and smoother.

I'd rather put premium diesel in without additives than mess about with my own formula of cheap diesel and x, y or z.

No need for 2-stroke oil, just use decent fuel.

Over the summer I spent a lot of time in Bristol (my daughter bought a house, guess who was repairing it!)

I was passing an Asda petrol station and kept filling up there. I noticed my engine was getting noisier (sounded like injector problems). I never associated it with fuel, but when I went back to my usual fuels (Esso and Total) the engine went back to normal. It is now no louder than it was when I got it 11 years and 314k miles ago. I am sure that an occasional visit to Asda won't cause any problems, but regular fills (at least weekly over a few months) may take their toll.

I cannot guarantee that it was the fuel, but it seems too much of a coincidence.

I tried adding 2-stroke oil a few years ago when the car was going through a smoky period. It didn't seem to make any difference. An EGR and inlet manifold clean-out fixed that problem.

Well the old 2 stroke trick works for me in the 270CDI, much quieter on cold starts (still noisy for the first few miles but no 'clatter', and the engine feels smoother when cold), forget the branded stuff (Millers, Rhino, Redex etc) and stick some 2 stroke in, I'd rather have 300 ml of two stroke in a tank full that works than a cap full of snake oil in my tank, modern two stroke oil will clean and lubricate and mix with mineral oils , thats its job, and thats why it works! FB or FC grade for pre DPF and FC grade for DPF equipped cars.

Ironically I've heard of people using diesel instead of two-stroke oil in their scooters.

haha, I've had a few 2 stroke bikes in the past, only a raving idiot would forgo 2T oil for diesel. BTW

I read a few (OK lots) of websites about diesel additives (inc scientific papers) and the conclusion is they don't work (t2 oil does!) in the recommended doses, but one site caught my eye, in 250:1 ratios additives really do work.....but you need to up the ratio to 250:1 from the recommended 1000:1, still works out cheaper that using Nitro+ diesel with less clatter and improved mpg (measurable). So there you go, use 250ml per 70L and you will see results.

I stick 500ml in every tank on the ML270, normally get 70 litre in there, so around 150:1 as it is an 80 litre tank.
Makes a massive difference.

Considering it is £100 to fill, another £2.50 makes little difference, and still a fiver cheaper than adding Esso's Nitro+ or whatever it is called.

Great mate, did you notice any benefit at the recommended dose of five or six teaspoons full per tank?

I only ever chucked a bottle in, it is 2.5% of the price so seemed daft not too.

Well after seeing a recommendations on here for Millers I tried a bottle over the last few months in My E320CDI.
Honestly, I have not noticed a jot of difference at all.

A bottle over the last few months?

I put half a bottle in every 60 litres.

Hi there - which brand of 2 stroke did you use in the 270cdi?
