Car
2001 mercedes e320 cdi Elegance
I bought a 2001 Automatic Mercedes, E320 Cdi.
My Insurnace compandy reckon it is a Classic Model.
The badge on the side of car states it is a Elegance Model.
Some parts dealers reckon it is a Avantgarde.
The Automatic gear knob has Avantgarde on it.

I dont have the Log Book back from Motor Vehicles and i cant read the Vin number on the inside of door because somebody has been closing the seat belt buckle in the door and damaged the Vin Plate.

The car is Silver and has Black leather interior which might help.
Are parts for the engine interchangeable on the 3 models.?

I think the car was for the Southern Ireland Market, Eire, and then Reregistered for Northern Ireland, Uk.
It has been told to me that is why the Vin no is on the inside of Drivers door and not on windscreen.
Can any help with any of this,
Thank-you,
Meeka.

Green glass, high ride height, side mouldings all in painted body colour, cheesegrater grille = Classic, body mouldings with stainless steel inserts = Elegance, blue glass, birds eye maple on the dash and door cappings, sports alloy wheels and lower ride height and slatted grille = Avantgarde.

If unsure, post the VIN up for a check.

He doesn't yet have the VIN. Read again.

Hi,
I have no way at the moment of providing the Vin no.
The plate on the car with the Vin no on it is unreadable.
Some one damaged it with closing the door with the seat belt buckle caught in the door.
regards Brian..

Hi,
When I bought the car I seen the log book before he posted it to Swansea.
I have misplaced the part he give me to keep.

Brian...read the above posts...carefully. The VIN is shown on the bottom right hand corner of the windscreen...even in Northern Ireland.

Whether your car is Classic, Elegance or Avant Garde makes no difference with respect to the engine.

Read again Brian, VIN number is behind the windscreen, roughly where you would've put the tax disc.

The wing badge could be incorrect if the wings have been replaced. Do you have the reg? PM if you like

EDIT: not enough posts to PM.....

EDIT 2: I need to read the original post fully :)

Hello Brian,

Go out to the car...from the outside of the car look at the lower RHS of windscreen, you will see a small box with the VIN etched inside...if you don't then you need to worry about vehicle identity...

lol in the time it took me to type my last msg, you beat me to it :D

Earth calling Brian...:D

Twice...:D

The visible VIN is an option, selected for UK cars. The O/p's car is from Eire, so possibly doesn't have this option selected.

The VIN is stamped just in front of the drivers seat in the floor, also on the bonnet landing panel on a sticker, in the door shut and on the underside of the parcel shelf.

Hopefully they all match...

Apologies Brian...just read the end of your post.:o

I suspect if it originated in the South it is a Classic.

As above, check under the flap in the carpet below the drivers seat.

Hi Renault12ts,
Good man, You have it.
Its not on windscreen as I pointed out in earlier posts. Its On drivers side, just below front door catch. I cannot read it because it was part damaged with the seat belt being closed in the door.
There is also Id numbers on the engine bay as you have said.
Thank-you,
Meeka.

It should start as: WDB210026......... or, if an estate, WDB210226.....
