2003 w211 stereo

Hi I've got a 2003 E55 and the stereo inside has a cassette player and I'm wanting to upgrade with a standard Mercedes CD unit. Do I need to do anything to it or can I just switch units?

You know it has a CD changer built in right? below the unit?

Yeah it's got a CD changer built into the dashboard but I don't like the cassette player it looks dated so was going to replace it and bring it up to date.

No you cant just swap it for a non Mercedes unit.

The audio-20 cassette system has a separate AGW in the boot where all the speaker wiring is.

The best bet if you want to change it is to put in a standard W211 NTG1 comand head unit. It wont give you navigation but it will give you CD/DVD and an AUX input.

You can add navigation aswell if you add the nav drive and wiring in the boot.

Thanks Alfie the old unit that's in the car is a standard Mercedes unit with navigation so should be a straight switch. Fingers crossed
