2004 220D automatic elegance buying advice

Hi,

I know a little about cars (mainly old ones), and have been asked by my friend to go and look at a 2004 220d elegance with him.

I know nothing about modern cars so can anyone offer any advice on what I should be looking for, any big services, belts that need replacing etc.

Mechanically I think they are pretty solid (I had no real problems with mine over 4 years and 160k miles).

Rust may still be an issue around that year, so check wings, door seams, subframes. Other also report electrical niggles, so check that everything works when you press the button.

It'll have SBC brakes, so you'll get an intermittant "burp" as the pump pressurises the system - perfectly normal.

I'm sure others will chip in with advice too.

is it a c class or e class

As its a diesel, no belts to worry about directly.

Valeo radiators are a common problem so either check it has been replaced or see if the auto gearbox oil has been changed recently.

Check EVERYTHING electrical works!
