Hi, I am about to buy a SLK350 (the one with the stonechips:cool:) privately, and I've come across the oil consumption issues on the early models.

The VIN is WDB1714562F015766 and the engine number is 27296330001575 which puts it right at the start of production for this engine, and well under the cut off point when they changed the piston rings to cure the problem.

It has a full MB history with the same dealer (MB Southampton), will I be able to get a report on whether this engine has had a repair under warranty?

If I do buy and subsequently find it's using too much oil have I any comeback from MB?

It's not done a lot of miles in the past 4 years according to the MOT history,

1st MOT - 22,737 miles issued on 6th July 2007
2nd MOT - 24,878 miles issued on 23rd June 2008
3rd MOT - 27,208 miles issued on 13th July 2009

Currently sitting at 33,700

It has had a B, 1st service - 15,331 miles on 15/11/05

It has had an E 2nd service at 24,878 miles on 23/06/08

What you you think?

Can anyone post a Data sheet for this VIN?

TIA.

I can't seem to edit. So.

What is your opinions. If the engine was going to burn oil, will it have done so by now?

Yes it probably would have. Just remember the original owner may not have noticed or been that bothered about it.
