2005 CL500 W215 - command won't turn on

My command head unit (NTG1) turned off mid-journey the other day. It sometimes randomly does this, always has, but this time it won't turn back on at all. This was 2 weeks ago.

I've changed fuse no.. 22 in the engine compartment fuse box - still won't come on. CD changer / Satnav has power in boot and will eject the DVD just fine

Anyone got any ideas....?

I'm afraid I can't be of any help, as I've had what sounds like the exact same symptoms in my CLS55 over a long period. I've had it "fixed" on at least two occasions by a MB specialist, but still on occasion, and totally randomly, Command shuts down and boots up again seemingly when it feels like it. It hasn't happened for quite a while now, but I know as soon as I start to think it's fixed it'll no doubt happen again! At least if you have a permanent issue, it might be easier to find the fault?

ok, thanks - I was hoping there was a second magic fuse I'm not aware of that might fix it

update - removed the Command unit, and got a multimeter on the incoming power cable - nice 12v reading and I can see fibre optic red too

Had a good look at the command itself, but could not find an additional fuse on / in it - I guess the unit itself has gone caput - annoying

Mine would do that on cold days

it was raining heavily the day mine finally went off, while driving. I was hoping it would have dried out and started to work again, oh well

Check the passenger side carpet in the front and see if it's wet. Leaves can block the drain holes at the bottom of the vents that sit below the windshield and cause water to enter the cabin and damage several electrical systems.

If it's been intermittent and suddenly gone, it's very likely the amp in the boot of the car. I had an intermittent problem with my S Class, would be fine and then now and again cut out, whole unit would misbehave or the audio would cut in and out.

This is the amp and certainly in the S it was in a prime location to get water drops from the boot lid and I believe in the diesels fumes through a vent in the floor but obviously less of an issue with the CL being petrol.

I took mine out and sent it off to a guy I got to know on Facebook who offers a refurbishment service. £400 and it was returned to me with a warranty and worked perfectly. Also was sealed to minimise water ingress as well.

It's really common on this era S and CL that the amp plays up and annoyingly it's not just an amp but a whole control module too!

thanks all - the carpet is dry in the passenger footwell. I'll investigate the boot / amp today...

Maybe time to consider an Android head unit? I've been pondering this for my W220...
