2007 CL63 Xenon headlight bulb replacement help needed

I was wearing latex gloves, the problem is trying to get the bulb in through such a tight gap and then somehow plugging it in. Also even with latex gloves on if you touch the surface of the bulb on the sides of the housing or if there is any dirt on the gloves (some dust is inevitable) you still run a high risk of creating a hot spot on the bulb.

The only clean way to put the bulb in either side is via the wheel arch lining in my opinion

Dust shouldn’t be an issue, the issue AFAIK is oils from your fingers.

Good luck, keep us posted :-)

Had some free time this afternoon so decided to have another go at replacing the blown bulb.

Got the drivers side bulb replaced, to do it I had to take the front wheel off to access another arch lining bolt which once removed then allowed the lining to come away enough to get useable access from below. I also had to undo 3 bolts from underneath that were holding the liner onto the under car engine cover.

Up in the engine bay I removed one nut holding the coolant expansion tank which then allowed the tank to be moved away giving one hand access from above too.

The only way to connect the bulb connector is one hand from above holding the bulb and one hand from below holding the connector. Then it was a case of trying to manoeuvre the bulb back into its holder (not easy due to limited access and the holder being within the plastic headlight casing). Once into the holder it's a case of recliping the bulb holders and reassembly of the above.

A proper ball ache of a job all to change a bulb and now I have the other side to do as the bulb colours don't match (new bulb is 6000k ice white and original was 4300k yellow).

Maybe this info can help someone else with a c216 cl one day

Nice one! One more to go ;)

Thanks for updating.

Do Halfords still charge just £5 for bulb replacement?

Got around to replacing the passenger side bulb the other day, pig of a job and harder to do than the drivers side. The best advice I can give to anyone reading this in the future is take the wheel off and then take the whole arch lining out.

Anyway I now have 2 matching ice white headlights, special thanks to clk320x as his advice was invaluable

I had to call my local Mercedes dealership for a unrelated parts query and while I was speaking to the parts dept I decided to ask the price of headlight bulbs for my car - the price per bulb was £150 including VAT and the labour was quoted at 2 hours. That makes the total nearly £600.

I bought decent quality (more clear light than OEM) bulbs for £32 and fitted them for free (albeit with plenty of ballache).

I just wanted to highlight how much dealers really do take customers' pants down at any possibly opportunity. Their oil changes are also poor quality work, they suck the oil oil out rather than removing drain plug - doesn't take a genius to work out you get more oil dirty oil out by removing the drain plug. Still the hot chocolate and biscuits are tasty at the dealership!

There's a main dealer close my friends house. I sometimes pop in for a coffee and posh doughnut, and you can watch TV too - it's brilliant! Though of course, I wouldn't actually buy anything there LOL
