Hi, a topic that has most likely been discussed before, but there are so many opinions and I've not seen a definitive answer … so, here goes:

I have purchased a 2007 E280 CDI Sport - proving to be a great car – however, I keep reading about all these tuning chips that can increase power and improve economy, etc. These range in price from £25.00 to £1200.00 where I would like to gain a reliable opinion on which one to buy, primarily, to improve fuel economy on a long motorway journey.

As an engineer, I tend to overthink and believe that a chip that integrates with all the vehicle sensors must be better than a 'fuel pressure conditioner'. I don’t know about a remap because I might later wish to replace the air filter with a K&N or do something to the exhaust and not thereby upset the remap. My aim would be to improve fuel economy whilst maintaining the grace of a Mercedes.

The thrust of my thread therefore is to ask whether any members can recommend a specific Tuning Chip and/or advise of other 'simple' cost-effective upgrades to primarily improve MPG. I'm not a boy racer, but would appreciate improved mpg when I cruise on the motorway.

Thanks in advance

Great to have a new member to the forum so welcome.

I believe the best solution for you is a Blue Optimize Remap, we carry these out regularly and see gains of up to 20% on MPG. This wont be affected by a K&N filter at a later date as the car will be sucking enough air with standard filters.

We do supply Tuning Boxes that modify fuel and boost however the gains in MPG are likely to be 10%.

Feel free to drop me an email for more info (see below).
