Interesting but obviously American; wonder what the list would be for UK / Europe (I don't think the Prius would be top for economy).

The Grand Cherokee really stands out there as being the only 'ordinary' vehicle to make it into the worst 10.

Surprising the best non-hybrid does 34us/42imp mpg. No diesels, though.

Yup the US market is quite different to here.

Spot the diesel on it. I would suggest it is an interesting read that bears no relevance to reality.

and US gallon is a different measure fom the UK imperiel gallon
Very true but the diesel powered vehicles well still be more economical than the petrol equivalent.

The US gallon is 4/5 of an imperial gallon, so the mpg figures must be multiplied by 1.25 to convert to imperial mpg. The best US petrol powered Prius still only manages 60mpg highway. A diesel MINI Clubman does 78 mpg at 56mph and 68.2 mpg combined. A diesel VW Lupo would do even more.

US vehicles still have a lot of catching up to do, but why would they bother? They don't pay £1.07 a litre!

I wonder if the excellent near-80mpg eco of a Clubman has anything to do with the longer roof giving better aero. Remember Volvo using the 850 estate in BTCC for the same reason?

I think that was pure marketing, they switched to saloons after that first season.
