Hi,
I've just had to replace my head unit in my 2008 e320 W211 and found that the satnav is well out of date to my original head unit.
I understand that I need an earlier update before I can download the last update.
Any suggestions please where I can get the earlier update, I've tried Evil Bay but without success. I hope this post makes sense.

What type is it?

COMAND NTG2 will have the maps on DVD.

COMAND NTG2.4 will have the maps on an internal HDD (copied to the HDD from DVDs)

And I don't think that the W211 ever had NTG4.

I think the maps are on a DVD located in the side under the panel where the fuses are in the boot.

Any success with the satnav, my maps are some trips I do it thinks are fully off-road! Would like to know if it’s possible to update. If not will stick to using my phone on a windscreen mount.

Around 2008 the NTG2.5 (guessing that's what you have) needed a firmware update to allow the later maps to be installed. This was a dealer update, not sure indys can do it but CommandOnline may be able to help.

Comandonline certainly can install the 2009 dealer update for NTG2.5, as that's what they had to do to my SLK as it had not been done by the original supplying dealer when they serviced the car - they also had not updated the 2008 original maps! However, it cost me a trip to Lightwater Surrey and £100. I found a set of genuine 2019 DVD's (the last ever update issued) on Ebay, installed them myself then sold the DVD's on.

Even with the latest update the maps and Satnav are nowhere near as good as Google maps or Waze.

Definitely agree

Also, there is no real-time traffic (there'll be TMC, if he's lucky).

But I think that the issue might be that the older infotainment units do not support Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, and not everyone is happy with a phone stuck on the dash.

And so some just make do with the outdated maps.
