Can anybody tell me where my MAF sensor is on my OM642 Engine ?

I think mine needs to be replaced but can't see to find it.

I'm having issues with my EGR showing code p0404, and some believe the MAF sensor is making it do this ?

I have replaced the EGR valve and its still the same.

Thanks

They are at either end of the big black batwing thingy . It is all one unit . The black plastic thing that runs right to left towards the back of the engine

Yeah i know what ya mean.

So there is 2 of the damn things ? One either side on each air intake ?
Yep, maf at either end .

Make sure it is the MAF sensor, as if you have the batwing and it has to be replaced in it's entirety.....be sit down when you get a price for the replacement part! Some MB dealers want £900 when others want a respectable (NOT) £450!

Some dealers are kind enough to supply one on an exchange basis!

Depending on which batwing you have, the one pictured above @W1ghty or the slightly later one. I can't remember when they changed over, but I had the misfortune of having the more expensive later one fitted to both my ML and CLS (2012). There is a way to dismantle them and replace the sensor in its housing, oppose to buying the whole batwing.

I think I may have done a write up on one of my threads somewhere, if not I will get round to it!

Yeah, i'm not entirely sure.

My batwing doesn't look like that one on Ebay, but it does have the part number on it so will check it.

Gonna take the car to Star in Caversham soon, see if they can diagnose the actual problem, by looking at the values when running.

P0404 is the EGR Valve but i have heard it could be related to alot of things, MAF, Turbo, Swirl Flaps etc

Why not pick up a cheap Bluetooth odbII dongle from ebay\amazon, then just install one of the many apps on your phone and you can see the fault codes yourself without having to pay for Star diags. You can save a lot of money taking the guesswork out.

I have got one and been using it. It comes up with P0404 like before.

However i have replaced the EGR and its still the same. The EGR issues can be linked to many other things annoyingly, Turbo. MAF, Swirl flaps etc.

If the garage can look at the values whilst the car is running we may be able to pin point it the actual issue, instead of keep replacing different things hoping for the best !

It shouldn't need the garage to look at values whilst the car is running etc, to determine your fault (in most cases), an indy worth their salt should be able to diagnose it by plugging it into star and negate the need for you to be replacing random parts. It will be the best circa £60 you spend.

Alternatively buy something like a icarsoft (theres a couple in the classifieds) and use that. It will pay for itself. I have foud mine to be invaluable and it helped my pin point my fault!

Do let us know how you get on.

Thats what i’m doing. I will take it to Star Motor Services in Caversham.

Is that the only error you are getting?
I was having EGR and O2 sensor errors on my e280cdi, after cleaning the EGR the issue persisted so I took a punt and replaced the O2 sensor first (cheaper option) and the EGR errors have also stopped (I wasn't really expecting it to fix it but it did)
