2009 W212 OM642 oil leak after oil & filter change

I ended up taking the car to Merc-Land, dropped off yesterday and picked up tonight, they kindly loaned me a car in the meantime, it was 100% the oil cooler seals and they also replaced the oil cooler, the drive home was silky & smooth and there seemed to be more power too, very happy bunny
 
Yes I agree, and with the knowledge that the mechanic doing the job had done dozens of the same job
From what I gather, any mechanics that work on Mercedes regularly will have a lot of experience of fixing this fault!
 
Could well be the oil cooler seals , which is from below the oil cooler in the middle of the engines V , not visible easily , but runs down the back of the engine .
yes you definitely need an MB specialist (they will all have done it before ) .
I hope the monkeys that have nipped up the sump bolts haven’t caused more unnecessary problems .
Im sure someone will recommend a specialist soon
 
Hi all, can i have some advice please?

3 week ago i took my motor to formula one autocentre for an oil & filter change, the mechanic said that the bottom plate/pan on the sump was moist but not dripping oil, he mentioned that he nipped up the bolts by about 1/4 turn each. A week later my car is pissing oil out, they used fully synthetic 0W30 low saps oil.

Since then ive had my sump bottom pan re sealed but still leaking oil, ( i assume not from the sump) ive just ordered the PCV valve and the 2 rubber rings for the breather pipe and the turbo inlet which ill fit myself, BUT

I really think that its my oil cooler thats leaking, i just cant seem to find where its actually leaking from and neither Formula One or the indy garage that did the re-seal could see where it was coming from.

Why would my lovely smooth v6 OM642 leak oil after an oil/filter change?

And does anyone on here know of anyone or a reasonably priced indy in south yorkshire that could replace the oil cooler seals (that have done this before).??

I’ve just inspected my oil cooler for leaks. I bought all the seals etc ready to fit myself. However, if you remove the turbo and the fuel filter you will be able to see the V that the oil cooler sits in. Get a bright light and check it out. I thought mine was leaking, but could not see any oil spill anywhere! It doesn’t take vey long to remove the turbo and fuel filter… the down side is how to find out where the oil leak is coming from underneath!!
Be careful taking the car to an Indy or Mercedes’. It’s very expensive. Get them to confirm if it’s the oil cooler seals or not… and yes you can check way before dismantling the whole top of the engine by doing what I did..

If you remove the turbo intake pipe and the fuel filter and look down all you can see is the EGR cooler. The oil cooler is hidden underneath that. The sure-fire place to check for oil cooler seal failure is next to the starter motor. There is a 4mm drilled hole adjacent to the starter which is the exit of the valley drain. If you have a cooler seal failure you will find oil coming out of that drain hole. It will be obvious.
