hi guys i noticed a few of these models when passing buy to be a bit noisy and rattlely or could it be just the fact the car just been started and driven cold.

also do these new facelift engine in the diesels stay at the same noise level or do they get louder as for e.g mileage reach about 40k to 50k? cheers

Must be truthful and say I am a tad disappointed with gruff noise from my 250cdi. Mind only done 4k so might get smoother with more miles .

I have to confess that my facelift C350 CGI is a bit noisier than I'd expected - but only at tick over and from the outside. Something to do with the direct injection apparently.

If you look at the progression from indirect injection diesels like the 606 in the W124 to the latest diesel engines they have got noisier with each generation. It's down to the fast burn from tiny pulses of fuel from very fast opening piezo injectors along with super-high injection pressures

From inside the cabin, mine only sounds noist when pushed. Otherwise it's pretty quiet. I've done 11k miles now and not noticed much difference over time.

I'm actually surprised how civilised it sounds.

OK, it's never going to be a V8, V6 or even a decent I4 like a Honda VTEC, but it is relatively muted and unimposing. Certainly, my old VW 2.0 TDI was much more 'diesel-y' sounding, especially in the morning.

Let's be honest, we don't buy diesels for their noise. The best we can hope for is they don't sound like buses.

On that basis I'm happy enough.

The fours are noisy, thats one of the things that made me go for a c320cdi.

heard these where quite refined i could hear one from 30 yards away... are petrol versions in the c class a rare breed now?
