C Class C220 Coupe
Hi.

I don't have a Mercedes yet but I have made my mind up that I'm wanting a C Class Coupe. I have been checking the used Mercedes website for the past month or so for one available near me.

One has become available at a Mercedes garage near me, it is a C180, it is in the colour I want and it is within my budget. The only small snag that's ever so slightly putting me off is the engine size.

My friend has a C180 CLA and he was saying it lacks that kick on the motorway when overtaking, I know the C Class coupe has the turbo so I was just wondering if any owners feel this makes a difference when motorway driving ?

I used to own an RX8 so I'm not wanting a performance car, I'm wanting a car that looks good and is comfortable to drive and doesn't cost a fortune to fuel, but I would still like to have a bit of acceleration when needed.

Thanks for any replies.

It will be the 1.6 engine with 154 HP and 184 ftlbs of torque. 0- 60 in 8 secs. (The same engine in a CLA can be only 121 HP and 147 Ftlbs)

OK it's not fast compared to some but don't let the engine size put you off. The torque curve is flat all the way from 1250 - 4000 RPM and the car will drive like it has a bigger engine. It will feel quicker than a 2.0 litre naturally aspirated engine.

Your friend is correct it will feel flat in top as it's very high geared for economy. In the manual 6th speed is 31.9 MPH/1000 RPM and the auto is a touch lower but not much. That's not a problem just change down a gear, even 5th is still 26.2 MPH/1000RPM which is useful for the steeper hills on the motorway.

Seems like you need to drive it and then see how feel about it . Unfortunately there isn't much of a choice for petrol engines . If I'm right it's either a C180 or C63 for the coupe shape?
