IIRC only if you have xenon headlamps?

I was under the impression that it is a legal requirement for DRL's to go off or dim when the headlights are on?

Only when they replace the front position lamps i.e. the side lamps.

All the ones I have seen that remain on do go dim, but because it's dark they look bright.
If you get what I mean.

I was under the impression they only stay on with the headlights but much dimmer if you have the intelligent lighting system (ils).

They're meant to go down to like a 30% dim or off when the low beam has turned on, wether that be auto-on or if you just turn the low beam on

If you want them on all the time perhaps rewire a (fused) line to the battery +, with one to the ignition feed and earth it. I imagine at the moment they're wired in with the side lights or the low beam

On a 2012 MY it'll all be CAN-bus controlled via the SAM coding.

If it can be coded on a car without xenons the guys at Comand will know how.

Daytime running lights | AA

"Daytime running lights don't have to be separate lights - some car manufacturers combine them with the front position lamps (side lights) in which case the daytime running lights will dim when the headlights are turned on.
If daytime running lights are located very close to indicator lights then the DRL on the appropriate side of the vehicle must turn off while the indicator is operating to avoid masking its signal.
The performance requirements for Daytime running lights are defined in UN ECE Regulation 87: Daytime running lights
The operating requirements for Daytime running lights are defined in UN ECE Regulation 48: Installation of lighting and light-signalling devices.
Retrofitting

Retrofitted daytime running lights should be installed so that they come on with the engine and go off when other lights are turned on. Manually operated daytime running lights must be turned off at night to avoid dazzling other road users."

Hi

I am new to the MB Club having recently bought a 2014 C250 AMG. I had wondered about the DRLs and why they switched off at night. Happy to accept the EU stuff, however, the lights on my car are pretty poor, even after upgrading the bulbs and getting the headlights re-aligned to the highest position that is accepted for MOT in the UK :)

My real concern is that in fog I basically do not have any front fog lights as i only have a button which activates the rear fog light.

Am i doing something silly?

Thanks
Paul.

The fogs on yours are replaced by the DRL's, if you have halogens I recommend the Osram Nightbreaker + Unlimited bulbs, quite cheap on Amazon sold by Osram themselves :thumb: H7 size if I remember correctly

Hi ,
I was told when we bought our SLK that the front fogs were replaced by the drl lights as they were very bright . I must be thick but how? They go off when the main lights come on , with the sensor. There is no switch for them , only the rear fog light unless they are combined somehow . Can someone tell me how the drl lights work as fog lights .
Cheers
Michael. :dk:

They are brighter than the lowest K halogen, however we all know 'vision' is better with the lowest, but using them in fog you won't be missed. Also I'm sure the sensors would kick the DRL's in when it's foggy? I can't confirm that

Why would you need fogs anyway? (Obviously apart from in foggy weather) cars with fog lights on when it isn't foggy really grate me, even worse when people have them on when it's chucking it down with rain, especially the rear!

Even with the ILS lights you don't get front fog lights and get the one switch. The only difference being that when put rear fog light on the front main o/s light does change the beam pattern.

Not sure how good it is as I've not had the chance to try it out.

I would usually go for the Osram Nightbreakers, but went for the +130% Philips NightVision Extreme this time based on Autoexpress review... wish I had stayed with the Nightbreakers :(

Well I guess I can buy the nightbreakers and put the philips into the full beam.
