Hi,

Sorry if this has been answered to death else where.

We've now had the C180 for a week now. And love it. But are a tad surprised at the fuel economy. My wife uses it for commuting. Her commute is over an hour on motorway. She's been taking it easy and at a push has managed 38mpg.

Is this normal? The car is an auto so that tends to not help matters. But the dealer thought we'd at least get early 40's. I've not checked the tyre pressures yet, but as the car has just been picked up, i'd hope they are ok. The car has only covered 10k since new and is lightly to have been used to go to the shops and back. I know that the gearbox may take time to adjust to the new drivers, but is that lightly to be the same for the engine management?

Thanks, Andrew.

The official combined fuel economy is 42.8 and the extra urban 56.5 for your car on 16 inch wheels so the sport will use a little more fuel. So what youre achieving seems about right to me . My car is currently averaging 52 ish with mainly motorway use and the official combined figure is 57.7 so proportionally the same as yours. #it will improve in the summer of course as the figures are based on 20degrees approx.

Hi, ok but should she not be at the higher side of things, as she is only motorway? It was the previous owner that tootled about in it. Granted she does have the 18" wheels. To be honnest the MPG is not a big concern, but I did seem to be low compared to the official figures.

You wouldn't be the first not to achieve official figures. It is early days and adapting her driving style may be called for if better figures are wanted- no sleight on her. Was the previous vehicle a diesel?

I would see how you fare when you drive it on a run.

My wife gets 34 mpg when she drives and I get 45mpg in the same car when I drive and I drive at a fair old pace. The point I'm trying to make is that a lot depends on driving style.

Also, as the weather gets warmer, you should see an improvement in MPG.

Yup... a Passat diesel... Now I know we'll defiantly not get the 48mpg it got... the loss of MPG is more than made up for with the comfort and toys. :-)

I'll have a the car for the weekend.... wonder what effect I can have on it all.?.?
