I have read the manual, watched the youtube videos and still cant copy across the mp3 files from a cd to the hard drive.

The copy files tab remains greyed out and wont allow me to select it.

I have reset the system and it still happens - any clues ??

The mp3 are not protected as I copied them across fine in my Lexus

Yes, plays perfectly from CD and USB jack, just cant copy over to HDD, which is empty.

Just checked my (new to me) car, and to correct my earlier comment: you can only transfer MP3's from chips / external devices to the hard drive, you can't transfer from CD's (in either audio or Mp3 protocol).

I managed to copy mp3s onto mine. It was years ago but it must have been mp3 direct because I don’t have most of the tracks on Cd!
I guess I must have done it via SD card or USB. I don’t think you can rip cds direct. I didn’t do it from Cd as I don’t have mp3 on cd.
Not very helpful I’m afraid, other than to say it is possible somehow! W212 2014 with comand with an sd slot.

Just checked.
Select audio
Select music register
Select Copy mp3 files
Select memory card
Pick what you want.
Memory card is the only option selectable on mine

This is what I see

But does it make sense to hold the music in your tiny onboard hard disk.

Maybe it's more future proof to just hold the music on an external chip physically connected to the car, or bluetoothed to the car.

Or to come up to date and stream the music straight from your phone, either from recorded or streamed content ?

Makes sense to me. That’s why I put it there!
Other options are available as you point out.
