A couple of weeks ago I went to the British Motor Show in Farmborough. I was unaware this was a thing, I had previously been to the last (proper) motorshow back in 2006 I think it was at Earns Court in London.

This is now a family friendly event and not really a 'real' car show as such, however it was a great day out and I would recommend it for a day.

The Mercedes stand was shocking, never have I been to an car show and left so cold. There was NOTHING at all of interest. Generally I think the rule of thumb with new cars is to almost ignore what they look like in photos and to see them in the flesh. The EQS looked, well, cheap and bland. Like a larger version of the old Honda Civic. There was nothing about it (exterior wise) that was Mercedes :( . Also on the stand was a 2nd gen CLS, dashboard reporting that it was low on washer fluid. The team were all sitting on their phones, clearly busy.

The the majority of the show, we were outside chatting to the owners of the 70s/80s/90s cars, far more interesting.

Celebrities wise, I walked past VBH and also 'Ratarosser' and of course on stage was Mike Brewer "OLD OWT YA ANDDDDDDDD!"

The Citroëns are stunning, the SD1 took me back a few years, loved the mint Orion Ghia and I even quite like the 'Airstream' Landi.
Shame about Mike Brewer though.
Thanks for sharing 👍

I had the misfortune of going to 'The British Motor Show' in Battersea Park a few years ago, its was/is a total waste of time and money given none of manufacturers actually care about turning up.

Since they canned the NEC as a venue, it has never been worth going to and having Mike Brewer there is enough of a reason for most people not to attend, let alone the poor patronage of the manufacturers.

Personally, I think Geneva is a much better prospect and a show I plan on attending at some point.

Loved the Geneva Motor Show for that ability to catch an early morning plane from LHR, walk straight out of Geneva airport and into the Exhibition Hall, enjoy the day, and then catch a 6pm flight back to London.

I spit feathers at the news that the next Geneva Motor Show is to be held at Qatar.

I can see the "logic" of using the same exhibition team but it's .... nonsense....

Ps Thanks for sharing the photos.

I was completely unaware of the event.

That blue Cobra looks awesome

I also like the AA Landy (recall those from growing up in rural S Wales)

Cheers for the photos

I was planning on attending the '23 show as I could do the fly out/back from BHX in a day comfortably, but alas it clashes with my main holiday for the year so it isn't to be :(

Not sure I can justify a trip to Qatar for the next one!

Personally I can't warm to him.
The thing I don't understand about Mike and his Wheeler Dealer nonsense, is the cavalier way that all the time to research, buy, collect, fix, polish and remarket is ignored.

Great to see "a bit of engineering on telly," and fun to look at old cars, but surely a bit more "James Ruppert" would make sense in a world where more than 30 million cars out there were bought used, not new.

Plenty of WD threads out there without turning this one into one also! :(

That's changed since I last looked at going, rather annoying.
Cheer up ! You did say that you couldn't go to Geneva in 2023 anyway.

At least they're acknowledging that Car manufacturers are aren't sure whether Europe will be back in covid lockdown this winter with "some latest variant," or whether Europe might be in some kind of Economic catastrophe or extended war.

Every cloud has a grey lining.
