hi there
how happy are you with your 209 petrol
thinking of changing the 208 next year and would love to keep a 2 door, looked at 215 209 129, the only 209 i have drove is a 63 and benz world, you get a feel for power but not a realistic feel of everyday driving. so anyone with a 320 or 350 have any insights.. thanks:)

Tony,

Both the 320 and 350 petrols are known proven engines and are fast fun engines. You won't be dissappointed. Try to get into a facelifted 209 if you can.

Would you consider a 500?

Wife's got a 209 cab with 200k engine. It's no sports car, but is fine for a soft top (the car that is, not my wife!) Before that she had a 209 cab 240, which was pretty much the same!

I haven't driven a coupe 209, but I would guess that none of them are sports cars, it's just a case of how quick they go and how much fuel they burn.

209's are great!

Just try to get one as young as possible (age wise, not necessarily mileage).

That way, any early problems that were experienced with the older 209's, would have been sorted out.

For example, there was a huge widespread issue where the 3rd brake light on the boot lid would randomly shatter in the middle.

This broken piece of light-lense would then fall out.

Alot of people speculated about the cause of this.

I reckon it was the force at which the boots on the older 209's would open at.
Once the boot lid reached the end of it's travel, I think that maybe there was a certain degree of flex in the boot lid, causing the brake light to perhaps bend and then break.

I've noticed that the boots on newer 209's open alot more softly.

I know you can adjust the boot lid opening speed by adjusting the springs by which it is attached to, but this is merely an example of "early problems".

The only common issue we have had with both our 209 cabs is the boot hinge/gas strut assembly. Both have broken. Easy to fix but annoying.

209s do look great with AMG body and a set of decent 19's would love a 350
thanks for your replies never knew about any of the common issues mentioned thanks ;)

You're not the only one thinking about one. Rashman has advised me already. Thanks for the thread start Tony.

Everyone else thanks for the info.

I have had a 209 - 320 Cab(2005 with 32k) for about 2 years and it is definately the best car I have owned. It is fast, quiet and a superb cruiser.

The auto gearbox is excellent and although it has tiptronic I rarely use except for a bit of fun when I remember. I even get the 2 kids in the back on a regular basis.

Would highly recommend this model.
