Had a quick! (LOL) trip from Woking to Aston (Birmingham) and back today. Done about 250 miles and while I was on the M42 I tried out 2nd and 3rd to the red line at 6000 revs.

2nd = 70mph
3rd = 110mph
4th = Don't know, did not get a chance :mad:

Got 25.5 mpg for the trip with an average speed of 65mph going and 54mph coming home this evening. As I spent most of my time on the M40 at 100mph it just goes to show how hard it is to maintatin a good average speed for a trip like this.

Well I had a go today - managed to get out of the traffic for an hour or so :)

3000rpm = 85mph

As for the gears, its all a bit of a blur to be honest,'cos they happen so damn quick its hard to get a fix, but roughly -

1st - about 40mph
2nd - somewhere between 65 - 70mph
3rd - well its over 100 but less than 110
4th - lost my bottle :(

I read that with the limiter removed the C32 will pull 188 mph :rolleyes:

Best mpg 24, motorway over 200 miles;

Worst mpg 14.5, (one of the best days fun in this car) over the hills from Macclesfield to Sheffield.

300SE - 65mph @ 3000rpm

'98 C240 - 5th Gear, 3,000rpm = 80 mph (bang on, like Shude's C230K).

By way of comparison my previous car:
'86 190E - 4th Gear, 3,500rpm = 80 mph.

90MPH @3000 in my C180K (twin pulse) :D

And im still getting about 37-39 MPG out of it :D well , according to the wee computer

Found some data with performance info on a tuners site, showing a speed de-restricted E55 AMG chipped to 380bhp giving Vmax 280 kph/173mph. The E55 has the CL600 gearbox and in 5th it gives approx 31.3mph/1000rpm. Which means I don't have to burn in a ditch to find out what it'll do at 3000 rpm (94mph ;) )

So at 173mph she's turning over at about 5.5k.

You can check out your model by following the link.

Above site v. useful for anyone with money to burn :)

I've never been above 2500 revs in my 190E and that was 65mph.
I'll try the 3,000 tomorrow and post again.
BTW, can I hijack this thread for a moment and ask if trhere is a letter class for a 190? (I see peeps on here referring to E class etc)

190E @ 3,000 RPM hovered on 77 MPH on the flat.
Does that sound about right for an old banger?

Sounds right, most car engines are at the best performance/fuel economy compromise at about 3000rpm. It makes sense that most decent cars are doing 75-80mph at 3000rpm because that's basically motorway cruising speed.

Not to contradict, but clarify, "most petrol engines are there best at 3000 rpm".

Diesel engines prefer 2000 rpm for best economy. Which is 75 mph and 44 mpg on mine.:rock: :rock:

mine is 67mph at 3,000 rpm, why 190E can achieve such high speed at 3,000rpm , coz' we are only talking about 200cc diff.

And a C200 is doing about 67mph at 3,000rpm ???

Is that a 2.3 190E ?

amdxp..... if you mean mine, No, it's a bog standard "H" reg 2 litre jobbie. 5 speed manual,128,000 miles on the clock. No idea why the difference. Maybe it's a weight thing.
