I didn't say it was for best economy, it's the best economy/speed compromise. I get better economy at 2000 rpm but I'm not going anywhere with those revs . I know diesels tend to rev lower and have power in different places across the range so I suppose I was only referring to petrol engines with that statement, I don't know much about petrol engines or diesel engines so I will have to assume you're right . If I bust 3000 rpm my car drinks fuel twice as fast anyway, 80mph == not bad fuel economy 81mph == no fuel economy!Originally posted by Brian WH
Not to contradict, but clarify, "most petrol engines are there best at 3000 rpm".
Diesel engines prefer 2000 rpm for best economy. Which is 75 mph and 44 mpg on mine.
Might depend on whether you have a 4 speed or 5 speed gearbox.Originally posted by amdxp
mine is 67mph at 3,000 rpm, why 190E can achieve such high speed at 3,000rpm , coz' we are only talking about 200cc diff.
And a C200 is doing about 67mph at 3,000rpm ???
Is that a 2.3 190E ?
