Hello all. My 300ce 24 1992j seems to sing from the rear at about 40 to 50 mph, the noise noise changes tone as I back on and off the gas. After about 55mph it doesnt seem noticeable. However at about 85 90 mph I can just hear A fine whine ( hardly noticeable to other passengers). My question is could a diff oil change eliminate this noise, or could the central diff bearing be the culprit. My car is a 5 speed auto with A.S.D. Also what oil is recomended for my diff (with A.S.D) and are there any additives I could use. Thanks.

I don't think changing the oil will make any difference to the noise. The type of oil will be in the handbook

W201 and W124 diffs whine after a few years and they get a little noisier as the years and miles roll by

Strangely enough, I have been in a couple of low-mileage 300 CE-24 Coupes that whined quite loudly whilst hard-worked Estates with double or triple the mileage don't. Which proves exactly nothing

Put it on X Factor. It wont be any worse than Wagner.
