4 wheels tracking £££ at mercedes.

What is the toe?

Toe in or toe out refers to wheel alignment viewed from above, whether the wheels are set to point in or out along the direction of travel. Same as tracked in or tracked out.

can you have a look at the toe properly with the laser thingy? National looked at my tracker and they said the toe was proper as the two back wheels where on the same aligment?
Just curious as mercedes and other quote a 4 wheels alignment to be a 40 minutes job, I was under the car and as they show me all was fine, but is it the proper way to do it? :dk:
Or when you spend 40 minutes there are different criteria then front and back? :dk:

Just to add my tuppence worth.

I had the alignment done (all 4) at a well recommended establishment. But 6 months later I was buying 2 new fronts for £150 each. Why?

Because they did the job without the engine running, and the CL needs the fancy suspension up and running before you can make any measurements or adjustment.

There's quality, and there's value. You choose. I wish I had! The £150 cost of MB's alignment would have saved me that amount.

Cheers,
Nick

Just wrote something and its gone, anyway, in total line with you on that one. :thumb:

Update..

CLCM called me at lunchtime to say he couldn't fit me in this afternoon, though he was very apologetic about it. Going in on Tuesday morning now.

How did you get on? :)

I've cheated a little and just C&P from the PM I sent you..

Ok, here's what happened. I was booked in at CLCM for a 4 wheel alignment and all wheels balanced at 10am. Found the place and he started his business. He adjusted pretty much everything and the print out he gave me showed everything was well within the manufacturers guidelines. I asked plenty of questions which he answered but he was a bit miserable to be honest and hardly chatty. He also said he didn't have time to balance the wheels so had to do this separately. Total cost was £48.50 which isn't bad I think and was there a total of 50 minutes and he did a good job of sorting the geometry out. The machine he uses is all lasers and seems to be very efficient, better than the Farmers machine anyway. I took it to Farmers straight after and they balanced the two front wheels which they needed doing as they were well out. Farmers also did me a price match of £5 per wheel (it's usually £6.50) so that's not too bad. I didn't bother with the back two wheels.

If your interested I'll scan the printout and link to it for your information.

Who cares if hes miserable so long as he did a good job:D and for £48.50 that must be almost cost price bearing in mind overheads etc.

My front wheels need aligned but it might be advisable to get the whole suspension set up and checked out at the same time. It'll be interesting to see how you get on. Keep us posted...

Well, quite. Cheap enough at that. Here's the printout so you can judge for yourselves. A bit concerned that the rear toe total and thrust angle are in red.. Should I be?

Hi

The red bits mean its out of manufacturer's spec. (found that info after searching the net for reviews on CLCM)

I was wondering how your car is now its had the alignment done and you've used it.

also Olivier, did you get your done there, and how was it?

I'm in desperate need to get a proper alignment done on my W124 as National have messed it up big time and i need it sorted before wednesday!

thanks for any advice!

EDIT: Car booked into CLCM for wednesday so wish me luck!

Derek
