450 SLC - Restoration - HELP!

I have just bought my fathers 450SLC and want to restore it. General condition is ok and it recently passed an MOT etc, but it has been sitting unused for a long time so needs a thorough checkover and some interior trim replaced (seats and rear shelf). It could also do with a lower body respray.

Has anyone done anything similar so I can get some idea of costs? More importantly, does anyone know of a restoration company ideally near Dorset but would consider a company anywhere in the UK. I have done a number of Google searches but cant seem to find any.

Any help would really be appreciated!

I don't think its possible just to paint the bottom half of the SLC. There's a thin rubber strip which divides the top and bottom half, but once you paint the bottom the top will look odd unless its been painted recently.

With regards to interior are you looking at full retrim or just the rear seats?

At a stab i would say £2-3K. You have to rember these car's aren't worth as much as the more desirable SL.

I restored a SL W107, replaced the carpets, redone the seats etc, and painted the exterior. It cost approx £2-3k but i did most work myself like the recarpeting, and stripping the car down for painting. A company would ask £4-5 for that kind of work.

Thanks KLP... that has confirmed what I was estimating. 4-5K would be fine for me... I know the car isnt worth too much, but has a lot of sentimental value.

Appreciate the help.

Try a company based in USA called World Upholstry. Their e-mail address is www.worlduph.com They ship worldwide and provide every interior piece for almost all premium brand vehicles. Prices are very reasonable and materials are mostly OEM.
