500 SE Auto going for under £1k in less than an hour??

FAN-bloody-TASTIC!
Really pleased that it was as good (better) than you'd hoped - I think we were starting to worry about you :-)

Sounds like a little beauty - cant wait to see the piccies!

Oh, and I'll get the search party to stand down.

I don't know if it was the hum of the 5 litre V8.....or the softness of the cream leather...or the heated seats which Amanda particularly liked....whatever it was, suffice it to say, I'm very very glad I bought the Merc regardless of how it performs or how much it costs me in the future.

Heh heh! heh.
Hotel in Brighton?!!!!!

Nudge nudge wink wink!!

Glad you liked it mate and i hope you enjoy every minute with it.Since you don`t need a car anymore,i would start by changing your sig.

Hi all....this is the definitive update of what happened this weekend - you must accept my humblest apologies for not replying sooner but all will become clear...

First and foremost - What a car, what a car, what a car!!! I absolutely bl*ody love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It may not be perfect but it's 100% mine and I'm chuffed to bits about it!

I got the owner to pick me up from the local train station with my wife which was quite frightening when a big South African chap turned up... alarm bells were ringing.

Anyway - contrary to popular belief, he didn't "put us in the boot and re-list the car" which I must admit I was quite pleased about! (Very funny reading the comments above this morning.)

The car had a bit more rust than they'd let on but it still looks great and everything worked inside the car just like they said in the ad. The engine sounds a little "tappety" which I think I'll get checked out but to be honest, for £791 I reckon I got a bargain!!!!

Anyway - none of that matters one tiny little bit...the key point my merc mad friends is that the wife loves it...absolutely loves it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No sleeping on the drive for me!!! Phew!! :bannana::bannana::bannana::bannana:

She loved it so much, we decided to "go on a run" with the new motor and headed to Brighton for the night to stay in a hotel...:rock:

We had such a great time, we didn't get home till gone midnight last night and I was so exhausted I didn't update you all. For that I can only apologise profusely!

All in all - chuffed to bits! I'll upload some pics later today so you can all see her.

Also - I'd like to start getting quotes for the work that needs doing so if anyone knows a good rust repair place near me and more importantly, a good merc engine specialist that's not main stealer prices - please let me know. I'm in Fleet, Hampshire.

Thanks all for getting involved, it made a Monday morning extremely enjoyable reading all your comments! :bannana::bannana::bannana::thumb::bannana::bannana::thumb::thumb:

Gosh - this is all a big adventure!

How far is Portsmouth? IMHO you could do no worse than go see Olly at PCS. He is a well respected member on here (lots of people will vouch for him), good at what he does and will give a straight bat.

HTH

Portsmouth is definitely do-able, I'll have to ask Olly if he'll have a look then. :thumb:

I love this forum, it's bl*ody great! Nice one guys. :thumb:

told you... those V8's are addictive..
You know that very good, how many do you have?lol

Lol - I meant.....see if She's (being the car) any good...not Olly! Lol...came out wrong

Congrats on the car, sounds like a cracking deal, hope it turns out to be a good un...

Well it doesn't look like there is one - I think it's got heated mirrors and water jets? Could be for that? I need a copy of the original book for it - anyone know where I can get one?

OK - just had a quick look at a couple of the pics - should be a cover over the distributor cap - protects it from dirt/moisture .

The upper switch is the air-con switch : in the up position it acts as a dehumidifier when using the demister function of the heater / down is for air-con ; the switch below is for recirculation and operated a vacuum actuated flap .

Anything else you need to know - just ask .

Very nice car by the way ; I like them - I have two :D
