Hello everyone, new to this forum and Mercedes. The reason I am here is a neighbour of mine is selling his 500se and as I have always admired it, it looks like its coming my way. The trouble is I know nothing about these cars. It is an F reg 1989 500se in a burgundy colour with cream cloth trim, not leather! The condition looks remarkably good to me,with virtually no damage to paintwork that I can see. It has around 100k on the clock. The interior looks in very good condition as well with no rips or tears, just soiled, which I hope will come good after a valet.
Any advice on what to look for? was this car offered with cloth trim? and is there anything else to look for that may not be original.
No price as yet, he is asking for offers, but I think I may get lucky with this one as he seems to want it to go to me. Any advice on price to pay?
So, help me to make my mind up please.

Try posting again asking about W126 (the model designation) - there are one or two owners on this forum

If the wings and bumper chromes are ok then id say around £1000-£1500 is fair, maybe more if its a real nice car.

Would this be with tax and test and do you know wether or not it was offered with cloth trim? This seems to be a niggle on my part I expected leather on all these models, but as I said I know nothing thats why I am asking you lot.
Thanks.

Many Mercedes of that era were cloth or velour.

Yes they did come with cloth as standard, most were ordered with the leather at extra cost....

The cloth is quite comfy and cleans up well. There was cloth with velour bits, all velour, mbtex, leather and a suede like material. Easy to change to leather if you source a suitable interior, and you must have leather. 100k is considered low mileage really.
