500SEC fp relay - again?

On starting, the car fired up but refused to 'catch' - almost like fuel starvation. After about 5 minutes I tried again and all was ok. Drove to my destination no problem - the car has just passed the MoT in May with flying colours.

After an hour or so I returned to the car to head home. Same problem - its wants to go but just dies after 'nearly' starting. I lifted the bonnet and gave the FPR a good tap - bingo off she goes.

Now this current, (second hand), FPR is a replacement for one that caused me bother last year. Are these cars that 'hard' on FPRs or might I have another problem?

I had wanted to join the rest of the local MB owners on at the club stand in Ballymena next weekend but don't think I'll chance it now. :(

I would be inclined to buy a new one. You could try resoldering the connections on the mini PCB inside the relay. remove the can and just remelt all the component connections on the board---be careful not to bridge any parts of the printed circuit.

Thanks Graeme.

Suggestion has been made that it might be a faulty OVP relay causing a recurring fault affecting the FPR and therefore the pressurisation of the fuel injection?

Might that explain the symptom of behaving like it is suffering from fuel starvation on start up? (it has fuel btw :))

I have just replaced the OVP in my 201 which was convenient... (NOT) to get at - and relays do seem to be my annoyance theme for this year.

Mark S.
