Hi, ive come across from Benzworld as i havent been able to get much help from them. I have a 1989 500SEC which died on sunday night after i fired it up and switched it over to LPG, called out the RAC and the man said the coil was not 'switching' and that it could be the coil or the ignition control module. I have replaced the coil but still nothing, it turns over but no ignition, so im guessing it may be either the ignition module or the crank shaft position sensor. I am reluctant to take it to a garage and get ripped off and just to diagnose what i suspect in the first place.

So does anyone have an ignition module going spare that they dont want silly money for, the following part numbers should work;
007 545 07 32
007 545 22 32
006 545 54 32

I am in Coventry if anyone knows any decent garages with KE-jetronic experience.

Thanks

Thought you'd found one for £120?

They're normally about £350.

Yep - so did I.

£120.00 for an ignition module is a very fair price IMHO :cool:

There is a place in Lythalls Lane just on the sharp bend that have that knowledge. At least one of the guys is Mercedes trained.

i thought i had found one, turned out it was from a B reg and completely wrong. Ive just pulled the crank position sensor but cant really test it without an oscilliscope, put a voltmeter on the terminals and waved a screw driver across the end of the sensor and it has a small voltage peak. euro car parts are getting one in for me tomorrow for £106+VAT although im not hopeful.

I think the ignition modules are a fairly weak point on the older cars, apparantly the heatsink compound between the module and the inner wing dries up, causing them to overheat which cooks them.

Might be worth having it diagnosed properly before splashing out £106 + VAT on a crank sensor as your existing one might well be fine :)

im not gonna shell out £300-£400 for the new module so does anyone know what are the pin assignments of the 8+8+3 pin type ignition module (007 545 07 32) so i can try and hook up a less expensive 4+4 pin type, just to get the car moving until i can get megasquirt sorted out? Any help much appeciated.

500 sec with starting problems

All of a sudden my beloved 500 cut out on me on the way to work :eek:, got her going but she began to miss-fire then cut out permanently. Have since changed plugs,leads, disi cap & rotor arm, new plugs get damp, spark is evident but she just cranks all day long :confused:! Got to check crank sensor next. Any body out there reduced to foot patrol cos of this issue with their 500 sec's?
Any suggestions would be gratefully aprieciated. :thumb::wallbash:
