500SEC Widebody

That car is genuine AMG modified with the stage 2 engine modification, which consisted of high-lift AMG camshafts, ported and gas-flowed heads, to give a 55bhp increase to the base 231bhp of the 5.0 V8 M117. The quoted power figures seem to vary, some official brochures say 276bhp, the on ei have from Stratton say 55bhp increase, which implies 286bhp. The 55bhp may well be total output per litre, which equates to 275bhp.

Still a good car and in my opinion worth more - AMG's widebody press cars were white and this one has the AMG interior door cars as well.

I'd price it at 15k rather than 12.

Widebody's with a DOHC engine are worth considerably more, circa 25k gbp if they are in concours shape.

I have a feeling I've seen this car before whilst it was being restored.

If it's one I think it is, it spent quite a while with Chas at the SEC shop and has had a huge amount of rust sorted. Effectively having has most of the rear end rebuilt including wheel arch, boot floor and the parcel shelf.

This is an original car, but it has been subject to some restoration and a makeover.

For an independent point of view, if anyone was interested in it, I'd call Chas at www.sec-shop.com, he's had it pieces and has done the restoration work.

He said to me it was a good car when I had a nose around it, it was just rotten, which at this age isn't unusual, but it was sorted properly with correct parts and not just patched.

I'd say it priced about right all things considered.

Well that's even better if it has had some restoration - good for another ten years i hope, which adds to it's value further.
