Hi guys I'm new here and new to MB too, I'm hoping you guys can push me in the right direction.
Since owning my 1990 500sl I've found some parts can be hard to find, I'm currently having a rad custom made as no one currently has any stock of them and can't say when they will do next, I tried my local MB deal, MB UK and German, car parts shops and even contacted hella direct ! But no luck so custom is the only way for me :(
But as I'm going to this trouble I want to replace the water pump too, but I'm finding this is also hard to locate a good banded one,
So my question to you guys is are all r129 500 water pumps the same regardless of age ect ? As I know the rads are different from 93 onwards I believe ?
Hope you lot can help me out and thankyou in advance
James

If you can post your chassis number I can look into it.

I would bnet all M119 water pumps are the same..

I bought one about a year ago, there were plenty available at MB then.

Thanks for the reply,
My chassis number is WDB1290662F011128

Like I said I'm totally new to MB and older cars, euros don't have them and MB not longer stock them
I believe I've found out the correct part number and found a few on eBay that match this, but when I messaged them to confirm its the correct part apparently it's not ?? I'm so confused haha

Thanks again

Thanks mate I'll take a read,
I'm totally new to this as I've previously had Bmws, so when you guys say m119 is that the engine code ? Sorry if this is a stupid question I'm sure I'll pick it up soon haha

Yep, m119 is the engine code.

Your car should have the earlier "tall deck" m1119.960, though I think the water pumps are interchangeable.

Just took a look on the part 4 website and they either don't have stock or only show 'KWP' and there not the best, I'm looking for febi or similar but I'm struggle to find one or even a part number:doh:

Hi yes I have tried sl shop but if I want a well known brand hella / febi ect it's a 2 week wait!

And thanks grober I owe you one.
I've found a few on eBay that I believe are the correct ones but when I drop them a message with my reg ect I always get a message back saying it incorrect for my car I'm so confused haha, but I'm sure you guys know what your talking about so I might give the hella one a go.

Just realised the hella one wouldn't be with me till the end of the month haha

If your radiator is out? can you see the part no on the orginal pump? It may of course been replaced already?

Its not confusing if you scroll down and look a the list of compatible models. The only SL mentioned is the older R107 model which is the one prior to the R129! The other giveaway is the twin V belt pulley which predates your car which will have a polyV belt pulley.

Yeah that's the confusing part.
all the parts suppliers are saying mine has the older style one fitted, but my cars not listed on there but is on the later style.

You may need to use the pump from a 560 m117 and swap the pulley with yours.

I'll drop MB a call see if I can get a part number from them, then I can try match up different part numbers
How hard can a water pump be to find lol
Thanks for the help btw
