560sel for sale, does anyone know this car?

Never been a massive fan of that interior in all honesty, but it's period correct and matches the paint quite nicely.

560SELs in general are really quite tough to come across, not seen a nice one up in a long time.

560SEL's are quite common here still. They all come with rear wheel self leveling suspension, electric and heated front and rear leather seats, and automatic climate control. The option you don't get is the trip computer (probably the most depressing trip computer in the world) and 4 wheel hydro which never made it to the US models.

I have probably the nicest 1990 560SEL i've ever seen sitting in the back of my building. It belonged to a friend and an enthusiast who sold it to another friend and enthusiast. Sadly it was blasted in the rear at 60mph and needs a quarter panel, rear panel, boot lid and floor. I have a parts car 420SEL and am just waiting to find someone with the appropriate skills to fix it.

But it has no MoT history in the UK before 2016. Had it been in the UK it would have a UK history.

As @Will suggested it might just have been laid up somewhere and off the road. It was already coming up for 20 years old when the road tax (and presumably, MOT) ran out at the end of 2003.

For sure, a quick look at the vehicle history documents, service history or car history search with the VIN number will tell the story of the last two decades.

Struggling with the coats of arms. Google searched but can't seem to find a match at post 16? 🙉

In 2 years it will have historic status (for London ULEZ)
December 1986 registered, so December 2026 for that (3 years 1 month), also MOT and tax exempt at that point too :thumb:

I’d be interested to see the car once it’s all done and fixed up!

I mean they’re just lovely.. I mean when you sit in one you can just tell the luxury and how much status that car would’ve held all the way back then.

But like I said, can’t say I’ve seen a nice clean example up for sale in a long time, especially in the UK (take it you’re from the US judging the mentioning of US models?) most 126s have a tendency to have a lot of hidden rust and rot; especially when not looked after.. So it’s a labor of love really.

What color is the one you have at the minute? 😄

Mine is US car that's lived in Texas and does not have any rust (in the sense that even the bolts holding the calipers, the exhaust and brake likes look brand spanking new). It's anthracite grey with grey leather interior.
Here's an album that was created by one of the previous owners, before the accident: GVZ 1990 560SEL

I also have a European spec 560SEC in Nautical blue with grey leather.

This is the crest on the no plate if anyone knows their heraldry.
VIN is WDB1260392A285757 if that helps at all.
Not the heraldry, but the slogan points you here to a UK owner based in Nottingham - Mercedes Benz Collectors Club | Nottingham.

It mentions a 4 year restoration process, there's some in-progress pics in amongst the copious random posts. Odds are the crest is their work and has zero reference to prior history.

Sold at Bonhams for £8.5k in July 2021, looks like the new owner tried to flip it without success at H&H in October that year. There's definitely some discrepancies in the Bonhams advert; it claims genuine wings supplied by Mertrux but the resto pics suggest repaired parts, either existing or used replacements. And then there's this nugget:

10.00am 26/07/2021 - We have noticed that the service book that was photographed and added to the gallery is for another 560SEL, and as such we have removed the images from the gallery.

I also noticed such things in the listings. Many things put me off that car and I’m sure it will do somebody well. I like history and an honest car. I now have that!

A blue black with charcoal velour. I’ll try and upload photos

One Malaysian business mogul owner in Kensington (and used to go to Germany) until their return to Malaysia (I have emails and faxes etc to show this) the history file is about 200 pages which also includes speeding fines and parking tickets. It was then sold to a doctor and the car was registered to trinity college (to the doctor)

It wants a bit of work but on the whole it drives very well indeed. I absolutely love it. I also went into this fairly blind. Only had a rough description.

That is an awesome car… Also love the look of that SEC👌👌 They don’t make them like this anymore…

Quite cool looking wheels on the SEC, not sure I’ve seen those before?? Deep dish manhole covers?

They're 16" Lorinser LO's. I also have a pair on my R107. They're period correct for the 80's

An old English bloke out in Skiathos has a set of those on an old F plate 107. It’s been there for twenty years and still on U.K. plates!!
