6.0 "Hammer"

Shame about the chromed wheels. Stunning apart from that :)

Wasnt this car available for sale before earlier in the year also ?

Yep, I think it's the same one that I remember too :)

Yeah, but i think it's at credit crunch price now !

Unfortunately we have a dire ROE at the moment, so not the bargain it could be !

ill have 3 of them

do they realise how ugly their headlights are ?

could the engine & running gear easily be slotted into a w124 coupe RHD ?

just curious not planning anything

No....a fair bit of sheet metal would need to be chopped about.

As Talbir mentions...if the pound was still up around the $2.0 mark then this could be quite interesting.

Yup, I think I posted a reply back then. The seller was a dealer and I commented on their website advertising for near $120,000!

And now it's half that! Truely insane! Someone wants to shift it!

The stock w124 requires several hundred man hours of labour to fit the Hammer engine and running gear. Firewalls must be reshaped to accomodate the DOHC valve heads, cross member must be changed, rear subframe requires modification to accomodate the w126 differential that was fitted to all Hammers. Then plumbing changes to fuel supply pipes, power steernig pipes, rad pipes, rad fitment changes, wiring changes etc etc, the list of modifications required is wholesome !

Hammers are not what i'd class as tidy - one must remember these cars were modified after the event by AMG to accomodate V8s. The 500E was designed from first principles to accomodate the V8 so is a far tidier product.

But find a genuine 5.6 or 6.0 Hammer and it will run rings round a 500E.

But would it run rings around an E60?
I don't get the crazy prices of Hammers and it seems I'm not alone given that nobody bought them at the old prices.
E60 Limited for me please

Or maybe this?

Rarity, and the fact that when they were new, the motoring world had never seen anything like them before, ie the fastest 4 door automatic saloon in the world which had better in gear acceleration than a Ferrari Testarossa.

The E60 never managed to get the same sort of press coverage as the Hammer and didn't get the emmotions of the press running in the same way as the Hammer.

I think the fact that the Hammer was a real brute of a car also added/adds to its mystique, whereas the E60 was a more sanitised version and didn't have the same level of charisma.

The Hammer also has a sound track like nothing that MB has ever produced....my old one sounded like a NASCAR racer when it came on cam and made the hairs on the back of your neck stand up

To a lesser extent its like comparing a Turbo Technics to a 500E........with the TT you get the drama, shear kick in the back performance....the 500E on the other hand is a more sanitised/clinical but to my mind less charismatic car.

Great car in fantastic condition
Must say wheels arn't to my taste
With that mileage makes you wonder if they are scared to use it, or bought as an investment
