6.0 "Hammer"

If I recall correctly the TE shown was a home conversion and used a single cam, bored out M117 5.6. and did not have Gleason rear diff etc etc etc etc......in reality its wrong for the guy to have tried to have passed it off as a Hammer, as all Hammers had the Quad Cam V8 and significant structual and mechanical changes.

Saying that it was a sweet looking motor and had clearly had a lot of money and time spent on it and I would be quite happy for it to be sitting on my drive!!!

But would it run rings around an E60?
I don't get the crazy prices of Hammers and it seems I'm not alone given that nobody bought them at the old prices.
E60 Limited for me please

The E60 received the lowest attention from AMG out of all AMGs !

The E60 only received :

- displacement increase to 6.0
- high-lift cams
- AMG suspension kit and front roll bar
- AMG exhaust

Nothing else changed - no body kit, no full exhaust system, no change in differential or gearbox, nothing.

Compare the Hammer to a 300E and the differences are huge, the Hammer is a true bespoke car with hundreds of man hours to make it what it is. The E60 is just bolt on goodies to the stock version.

Great car the E60, but the Hammer is rare...only 13 ever made. E60 production from 91 to 95 ran into circa 120.

Rarity, and the fact that when they were new, the motoring world had never seen anything like them before, ie the fastest 4 door automatic saloon in the world which had better in gear acceleration than a Ferrari Testarossa.

The E60 never managed to get the same sort of press coverage as the Hammer and didn't get the emmotions of the press running in the same way as the Hammer.

I think the fact that the Hammer was a real brute of a car also added/adds to its mystique, whereas the E60 was a more sanitised version and didn't have the same level of charisma.

The Hammer also has a sound track like nothing that MB has ever produced....my old one sounded like a NASCAR racer when it came on cam and made the hairs on the back of your neck stand up

For the first time in a long time, i cannot disagree with you !

:D

There were only 12 E60 Limiteds made :D

I knew you and Vlad would choose the Hammers but for me the E60 is the better car. Each to their own I suppose :)

Edit.
The E60 received the lowest attention from AMG out of all AMGs.

Mainly because most of the Hammer mods were incorporated into the 500E.

Not sure on that number of E60's - i think there were over 20 according to stats.

The E60 is still a production line car. The Hammer was 'made to order' and in many ways, hand-made.

Yes, most of the Hammer goodies were incorporated into the E60, but no AMG bodykit, AMG exhaust system, AMG steering, AMG Recaros, AMG wheels etc on the E60.
