I have a late 2012 W04. Customer has had it recovered back to me. Thought Ide post in here while having lunch before I look at it. Lost power after 10 miles of under 60mph driving. Just died. Tempreture and fuel both good. It wouldnt turn over. It struggled almost like a flat battery. But battery current and voltage good. Not an electrical, alternator or battery fault. No codes on diagnostic. No engine light ( which is even stranger). Let it cool down. Checked oil, water. Water fine. oil about halfway on dipstick so topped it up. Engine started and idled from cold. Left idling at 800rpm and after 5 minutes starts to make tapping noise. Switched off. let cool, tried few hours later. Started ok idling at 1000rpm all way up to temp and thermostat opening, hot air circulating into car, no overheating issues. Let off 1000rpm down to 800rpm it kinda stayed itself at 1000rpm instead of stabilizing at 800rpm. This was 20 minutes idling at 1000rpm. Switched it off. Started it momentarily, and revs seems to wonder up a little on startup from warm. Switched off straight away. Appears the timing chain is still intact and engine is turning with no noise while oil is circulating . I am thinking towards a blocked chain tensioner or DPF/CAT ? There is nothing wrong with this car electrically. Does not seem to be any engine damage YET as it does not overheat and no oil water mixed.
The usual checks will be done but thought ide fire this away in here before I look at it later today or tomorrow afternoon.
