I know this has probably been asked before, but I can't seem to find a definitive answer.

I've just leased an A200d AMG Line Auto 136bhp with 300nM torque and was wondering what my options are in terms of remap.

obviously I don't want to void my warranty, but what are my options, and what are the potential performance gains.

I've been looking into chip tuning, are they are equal ? - and are they undetectable if removed before going into the dealer ?

Quantum say they can remap the car to 214bhp and 420nM torque, which sounds insane

So to put it quite simply, what are my options, what are the gains, and whats the safest bet.

Thanks.

Your only option to not void your warranty would be a Brabus chip, even then there is a mileage limit to keep the warranty in place and it must be done by your stealer

I missed the lease bit, seriously consider if they will let you do anything.

They could end until chasing you for the full value of the car if the worst happens in a accident and it’s been modded.

They could agree to the Mercedes fit Brabus if it’s warrantied, you could tell them you forgot to add it at order and are happy to pay for the retrofit in full.

I have had a few cars leased via the big players (lex) etc. and they are super strict.

I don't see why not if they don't know about it. Buy a plug and play tuning box which you can remove whenever you want.

Apart from being dishonest what about if you have an accident when jumping out and opening the bonnet may not be the 1st thing on your mind. And that's assuming you're not seriously injured and the bonnet will open.

Agreed, it only takes a minor bump and you won’t be opening any bonnet.

Too risky in my opinion and if it causes problems its defrauding the warranty

They can cause issues although rare a friend had a injector seal blow on a VW, fault codes had shown over pressure issues, never certain it was the box, but all a bit coincidental, cost him a penny to get the injector replaced.

Are all tuning boxes equal ?

I've seen ones like DTUK praised, but have also read that the cheaper ones on ebay are just as effective because they do the exact same job; as it stands I've ordered one fo r £70 off ebay due to arrive today, but I'm reluctant to install it.

This one: DIESEL TUNING PERFORMANCE CHIP BOX MERCEDES | eBay

Edit: By the looks of it the guy only deals in performance chip tubing boxes and only has 1 negative review, 2 neutral and the 659 positive reviews. So I truly am torn

No they are far from equal, cheap ones tend to be a box of resistors I wouldn’t put one near my car.

I went Brabus because it’s a trusted name, my friend who had the injector issue went with a big name and had a problem, it’s likely a weak seal rather than the box, but it highlighted the issue.

Also consider if this is a company lease, it could be gross misconduct and you would not be insured

If it’s personal lease the lease company could quite easily talk to your insurance in case of a big claim and find out you had it modified, because you would declare the mod, wouldn’t you??!!

Good luck in what you do, just lots to think about if you don’t own the car

A £70 box on a car valued at ???

You run the risk of breaking something on the new car, such as engine, etc
Remember if you destroy something on it Mercedes will check what went wrong, why it went wrong and where to send the invoice.

You have been given loads of sound advice but have not bothered to listen to those who have been doing this for many years.
When all goes wrong don't come asking how to get out of it.

It seems your intent......if so then the safest bet is to remap. Lesser of the 2 evils and no physical trace. But best and safest thing is dont waste your money.

The potential problem here, arguably of greater significance than warranty issues as has been mooted by gibsonk is that if you are involved in a major accident or event, which results in your car being written off, there is a good chance that the insurance assessor will have instructions from the insurance company to interrogate the car's ecu, which will reveal it has been remapped. Insurance companies will look for ways to get out of paying a claim and undisclosed modifications will allow them to do that!

And a tuning box would be readily visible.

I think the only safe way forward is to go with a Brabus box fit by mercedes and the insurance duly informed.

Beyond that there are potentially huge issues

What makes you say that? Lots of cars get written off all the time, there's no way insurance companies would start examining all their ECUs

Look guys I know I am getting old but the op started off quiet reasonable he has leased a car and wonders about a remap, now at that point I would normally lose interest,we have some body who is leasing a car and then wants to alter something he does not own,we then get members point out that this is not a good thing to do in a number of posts, all showing the pit falls of doing this, the op then posts "are all tuning boxes equal"
In my humble opinion leave this thread well alone it is bound to end badly.
