7G Gear "slips" when cold

Sorry about resurrecting this thread, I have started seeing the same symptoms as the OP recently. When outside temperature is really cold, starting in second gear in comfort transmission setting, engine flares up to 2000 RPM for about 1-2 seconds before the car moves. It only does this in the first 100 yards or so then all gear changes are good.

Does anyone know what the cause for this?
It’s a cold weather thing , the car does it on purpose to heat more quickly. Nothing to worry about

My car has only recently started doing it. I've owned it for over 3 years, driven it at all year round, and this was never an issue until this winter.

Last summer I had a transmission pan leak issue which I replaced with a fluid and filter change. So I thought maybe I was slowly losing fluid again but there is no obvious leaks, everything looks dry.

Can’t advise more than that . My cars hold the lower gear and refuse to change higher for a couple of hundred metres when it’s cold .
Hopefully some else will have an idea .

Thanks W1ghty, much appreciated. What I am experiencing feels different than the car holding the gear. It is more like the revs go up but no torque is transmitted to wheels, like revving in neutral for 1-2 seconds. Then everything engages and the car starts moving.

Yep that does sound different . Hopefully someone will help soon buddy .

+1 for low fluid, expanding as it heats up. One of mine started flaring occasionally like this. It slowly got worse so I had a look underneath. A corrosion pinhole on one of the ATF pipes was letting small amounts of fluid out. Changed it and filled it up -all good.
Can't help on the filling issue though. Different gearboxes need different techniques, and if it is low there's a reason which needs investigating.

Looks like booking it in for diagnosis with my specialist is the only option.
Why don't you try the gearbox reset procedure, although there are conflicting views on this. I've tried it a few times and it seemed to work.
