Hello,

Just purchased my first Mercedes, a E250 Coupe.

Very pleased with it so far however the gearbox seems really slow to respond.

I normally feel this when wanting to overtake on the motorway, the gearbox takes a good few seconds to find the correct gear. I usually leave it in Eco however in sport when using the paddles, it's very slow too.

At 50mph for example, 4 gear, when I flick the paddles to downshift the dash indicator shows 3rd gear but the revs only drop a few seconds later. I was playing with it last night and counted 3 seconds to downshift.

Is this a characteristic of the gearbox? I'm used to the ZF 8 speed in the BMW which is instant.

Thanks

you can get a gearbox remap i blve or a tcu upgrade

My c220cdi is very similar in manual mode to the point it annoys me that much that I have given up using it and just leave it in auto. As an auto box I find it works really well apart from sometimes dropping to many gears in kickdown and needing to change up again almost instantly, it can also be a bit jerky at times. Mine is a 2013 and has had a couple of software upgrades during its life and each one has improved it so could be worth taking it back to mercedes and asking the question.

You can get a TCU remap and a valve body upgrade which makes quite a difference.

However, there is a "reset" function you can do which is something to do with having the ignition key in a certain position and keeping the throttle depressed....supposedly clears the "memory" and sets it back to when it left the factory.

I had the same sort of problems with my c220, after trying adaptive resets with no real change, I had the gearbox fluid replaced along with a new filter at a mercedes specialist in Harrow called Wayne Gates, they carried a complete oil change including the torque converter and what a difference, gears change quickly now and more smoothly and now the car is a pleasure to drive.
Check back in service book to see when the fluid was last changed and go from there, mine was done at 30000 and I had it done at 70000, so fluid was only 40000 miles old but had become sub standard, hope this helps!!

Cheers chaps.

Car has done 20k so the gearbox should be in good health. In auto mode it's amazing, works a lot better than the BMW ZF box; easier to pull off, less jerky in between gears and smoother. It's just a let down when I need power.

I'll explore the possibility of a gearbox remap :-)
