C 320CDI and GL 320 CDI
Hi there, I have an '07 GL 320 CDI with 64,000 miles on the clock. I have started experiencing a problem with the gearbox which I assume is an electrical fault.

When accelerating over 3500 rpm the vehicle starts jerking violently and it goes into a sort of "safe" mode where it won't allow me to rev over 2000 rpm. Acceleration is thereafter very limited.

This occurs whether the vehicle is cold or hot. I called up my local MB Dealership and the head of the workshop told me that I should turn the vehicle off and the problem should resolve itself. The problem is now starting to occur more often.

I'm thinking I might be in for an expensive safari into the dealership. Could anyone which electrical component causes this issue? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,i wouldn't do anything other than get the car checed on star-if your car has been serviced by mb in the last year you are covered by mobilo(mb breakdown)who will come out to you & run the diagnostics for you to see what fault codes exist-hope that helps.

Thanks Steve, I'm going to take my wagon in for diagnostics. Just want to be a little bit more educated as to what the cause might be before they try and charge the earth to repair the problem.

Paul, it might be engine related. Might be as simple as a leaky turbo seal....which causes all sorts of mishaps as oil leaks onto an electrical motor jamming your swirl flaps shut.

Are you still on the original battery?

I know it sounds strange, but if it's approaching the end of its life strange things can happen to your transmission.
