My 2006 E320cdi estate has just reached the 100k miles mark, runs great and I love it. It has a full main dealer history and I want to keep the car for as long as possible. So I recently had the transmission oil and filter changed, although not necessary according to the main dealers and Mercedes service schedule I thought it a good idea. I had the work carried out at an independent specialist. All seemed good, however over the last couple of weeks something didn't seem right. When I leave for work in the morning, I drive down our road slowly just to let things warm up a bit before getting on the main roads. In very low gears, I think 2nd and 3rd, I noticed a pulsing, not harsh but just enough to be able to feel it, rev counter is stable and its hard to decide if there really is a problem but I could notice it. Then yesterday I parked on an incline. When I returned to the car I had to reverse up hill. Selected reverse and released the parking brake and the car rolled forwards as if in neutral, I hit the foot brake and tried again but gently increasing the revs to around 1000rpm, now the car started to move backwards but not constantly again a pulsing.

Im not a motor mechanic but to me it seemed like the transmission was slipping. Otherwise it seems to drive ok. I will be calling the independent who changed the oil after the bank holiday but wondered if anyone else had any similar experience or knowledge. Typically this car doesn't have a dipstick so checking transmission oil level is a major mission from what have read.

All comments appreciated and I will post back with developments.

Thanks

You may find its the Torque Convertor that's giving the issue....quite common on these early 7G's. You can get them rebuilt if it turns out to be the issue.

A good Indy should be able to diagnose the issue with ease.

With lucj it could just be the oil level too high, or more likely too low.

Worth getting it checked (at the correct temperature) before opening your wallet and saying "help yourself"...
