Good work. I once managed to get a 6 foot bookcase (in kit form) into the SLK, shelves in the boot, uprights in the passenger seat with the lid down. So much for her claims that my car isn't practical..

Cheers,

Gaz

Going out on a limb here , but I guess you were pining to do that .

Won't needle you about it anymore as the best jokes are evergreens .

With lines like that you could Branch out into comedy and have tinselout gig with your stage name or Nordman Fir.

I wonder if the OP SAW any reduction in fuel economy while his car was LUMBERED with that load , I suppose only if he keeps a LOG of such things ?

Using roof bars is cheating! :D

I once had to transport a load of the heavy duty cardboard tubes that are in the middle of rolls of carpet. They were lashed into a bundle, resting on the back seat and pointing up and forward through the open sunroof. It looked just like a rocket launcher.

This was a day or so after the IRA had attacked Heathrow with DIY mortars. I felt rather self-conscious driving around like that.

I once drove from Cornwall to london with a dismantled sleigh bed on the roof of a crx.

That was an interesting journey I can tell you , like a giant spoiler , soon as you were near 70 the steering became suspiciously light.

I once drove from the top of crystal Palace Hill to home with a load of 6 x 2 floor joists on a roof rack on a Ford Cortina mk111. The timber was longer than the car and bounced up and down all the way home......

You make it home without a pull ?

That's like one of those memes you see ... 'Meanwhile ... In Kazakhstan ...'

Not a peep, 180-ish miles from East Anglia to Berkshire.
