98 SL60 Special Edition

so most likely, the car was bought in Germany, sent to Rinspeed in Zurich for the AMG upgrade. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!!!!!!

Can Rinspeed not shed any light on it? Sounds like an aftermarket conversion of some sort carried out at a later date - the VIN should tell you at least where it was sold originally.

Please excuse this question ... but ... you are sure it has the AMG 6 litre engine?

I was itching to ask the same question..but since my last crack about turbo-chargers went down like a lead baloon I decided to keep schtum :D

Yes, It does have the AMG 6 liter. I have some paperwork on the car. I have not looked through it in about a year. I dont remember what is all there. My husband looked through most of it. I will pull it again. I had contacted Rinspeed a year ago to get the exact details on the convesion but they only keep records back 5 years. I hit a road block then and gave up. Now I am pursuing it again.

I couln't find any information suggesting Rinspeed ever did an SL conversion. What rims does the car have... maybe the Rinspeed connection is down to the rims alone.

So, probably 2 choices:

1. A standard SL60 that went to Rinspeed for some cosmetic mods. at some point
2. A Rinspeed SL500 edition that went to AMG for bespoke conversion to SL60 spec. (mechanicals)

I should think option 1 would be the most likely.

It was a Special Edition SL500 originally - last of the M119 pre 1999 facelifts and one of 500.

At some point afterwards it's been 'converted'. I'd just like to see some photos as I've not seen one of these outside of press images.

I will get photos. It has been raining for 3 days now. Let me see what I can do

Being pedantic ... if it wasn't sold by M-B as an SL60 (a standard retail model by that stage), wouldn't that make it a replica (or an AMG-modified SL500?) :dk:

Whatever, it sounds an interesting car and I'm also looking forward to seeing some pictures!

All SL60s of that era were modified SL500s anyway but I see your point.

Would just be nice to hear more about the car.

These pics are a longtime coming.....
