99 E300TD poor MPG

Hi guys just started using my E300TD after it being with my wife for a year and noticed the MPG has dropped dramaticaly since I used it last.

It runs well, Its on Mobil1td, had a transmission service recently, tyres newish.

Any ideas its a bit scary going for fuel!

Check the usuals, such as binding brakes then add an injector cleaner and go for a good thrash.
Check for breather blow-by before and after this, just to see.

If there is excessive black smoke suspect the EGR valve, if low on power suspect the MAF, if it pulls off in 2nd check the S/W gearbox switch.

Thanks Dieselman, brakes ok, have ran injector cleaner through, no particular smoke, not down on power, switch in right place and no fuel leaks but i dont know what the breather blowby is!

The breather pipe off the cylinder head. Pull it off and see if it's breathing heavily.

You might find MPG improves now you are back in the driving seat.
