Hello all,

Just bought an E220d new from mercedeses.

Having an issue with the engine. Have come from a 320i which was a manual and had little to no lag.

Current issue is I press my foot down on the accelerator and the car takes a moment to kick in. Revs remain unchanged and need to wait before I feel any response. Is this normal?

There is a slight delay with mine too, although slightly better than with the previous car. I'm lead to believe that it's due to turbo lag; I've learned to live with it. I certainly notice a difference moving to diesel from petrol.

If in doubt, though have it checked, but it should improve as everything loosens out.

Hope you enjoy your new car!

It does sound like normal diesel turbo lag for those that aren’t used to it

Does it change if you put the gearbox into Sport

Nope doesn't change with sport. Same thing on an e300 is tested

I feel this is more software. With turbo lag I would expect the revs to atleast pick up prior to feeling any boost. With this the revs don't change initially on putting my food hard down.

If you are not convinced, ask thr dealer to test-drive a similar car, then compare.

You can also ask the dealer to ensure that the latest TCU software is installed.

It's a turbodiesel, there will be some lag, especially compared to a petrol engine. After all week of driving my turbodiesel van (with the same engine as yours) when I get in my petrol car at the weekend the instantaneous throttle response nearly breaks my neck until I recalibrate my brain & right foot lol.
