w210 320cdi estate
Hi All,
I have just purchased a w210 320cdi avantgarde estate, I have a few questions please.
The little lcd on the right of the dash is pixelated, so i cant see what gear the auto box is in?
What RPM is 70 & 80 RPM in top gear?
just want a sanity check, as the box is so smooth its hard to feel the number of changes.
What sort of MPG can I expect 70ish with the cruise control on?

It has the mercedes cd 10 (single) cd player, any ideas how i can connect up a phone to play music from on this unit? Also has a parrot hands free unit that mutes the radio.

Many thanks
Ian

Common fault and not too difficult DIY repair....the ribbon needs replacing

Phone to be used for music or as a phone? If latter, the parrot is already in place for that. Depending on the model, it may stream music too

Thanks Bob,
I am trying to play music from my phone and into the cars stereo.
It has a Parrot CK3100, but this does not support music streaming unfortunately.
So the replacing the ribbon might be a solution, is there a howto link?

In the meantime, can I sanity check the RPM to MPH so I know all gears are in use?

Many Thanks
Ian

On my 1999 e320cdi it just says D, unless I decide to select the gears my self which then goes as high as 4 and the next shift puts it in D.

I see,
Problem is I cant read the gear number due to the LCD not working, hence the RPM v MPH question.
Many thanks

You'll get about 43-45 mpg at a steady 70 and 70 is about 2200 to 2300 rpm. Get the pixel fix kit. I have mine but haven't done it yet but it looks quite simple. If you watch the rev counter you can count the gear changes. Only 4 changes involved going up.

Change out the crappy Audio 10 unit and get something modern that will stream using B/T and will also allow phone use. It's a single DIN unit and easy to swap out.

If you hold the gear lever to the right and hold it for a second or two...your car will be in D, and the display (if you had one) would show D. The display always shows D in this situation, no matter what actual gear you are in.

The only time it shows a different value is if you touch it to the left to go to 4th and so on...or in reverse. I'm surprised no one above advised of this.

But modern units look so crap in these cars.

I may have read it wrong but I gathered the OP wanted to ensure all gears were working/being used and since the display is knackered the only real way is to count the gears as it changes up.

That is true as most of them are geared toward flashing lights and displays. I want DAB and B/T and phone connectivity and have more or less narrowed selection to Kenwood BT48DAB. I'll keep my 10 for resale time. Technology has jumped massively since 2002, when my 210 was built and car manufacturers are only now catching up with their units.

You're right, he/she does. Even if the display was fully operational it still only shows a D unless manually selected to something else like 4, 3, 2 etc etc.

You got it spot on!
I Think at 70MPH the revs were about 2200 rpm.

I have been looking at head units, thinking to drop the CD mech completely.
mechless Blue tooth, direct phone connection and control, some also state steering wheel remote ready.
So many options to choose from

Thanks for the replies.
