I think its a fine example myself.

No, because i found it a minute before you ;)

I can feel the excitement from a certain Blackpool/Preston based gentleman even now. Wonder if that engine would fit in a coupe? :bannana:

(And I'd have the interior!)

In fact , you could even buy a 300CE-24 off the shelf from Mercedes back in the day ;)

I see one everytime I wash my car! :D

A nice car, well looked after. Eleven services in 25,000 miles. We all talk of how the older cars are more reliable? We tend to say this through rose tinted glasses and forget about the servicing every 3000 miles.

I accept this example has had moreservicing than every 3000. I am just remembering my older cars.

07/04/1990 PDI 0 miles
05/03/1993 Service 1027 miles
31/08/1994 Service 3272 miles
24/04/1995 Service 4624 miles
29/08/1996 Service 6755 miles
22/05/1997 Service 8175 miles
21/08/1997 Service 9046 miles
24/08/1998 Service 11616 miles
20/12/1999 Service 13748 miles
20/11/2001 Service 18721 miles
25/06/2002 Service 20281 miles
21/02/2006 Service 25624 miles

I reckon Charles Ironside will buy it and sell it for £50k :D

Do older Mercs have to be serviced ever 3000 miles ?

Mine is done every 6000 ....

None of you lot will ever want to buy it now ..... not that you would anyway , 'cos it's white :D :p

Mine is white too and I'm proud, you are not alone Howard....

All these Phillistines who are 'colourist'

This car has been serviced more often because of the lower mileage. You should service a car every year or so even if you don't use it.
I think longer service intervals on newer cars has more to do with synthetic oil than better engines.
Looks like a car with potential.

5000 miles in 4 years? And it took 3 years to do 1000 miles from new...

When I spoke with dr1ver about this car he told me the head gasket was shot and that a "mate" was going to fix it. I wonder if said mate did? If so things to watch for are (experience gained from Gollum's car) gasket sat on block square. Cams set up properly, will run 1 tooth out, but of does it run rough. All vac lines under manifold put on in correct places. Heat shield in front manifold put on before manifold fitted to block, coz they are a pig to fit otherwise. Air pump hose not perished (Carol's was) and the list goes on.
