What work carried out on a B is more than an A service?
The car said B due and I booked it in to the MB dealer and quoted £430 Inc a free mot.
Collected today and they carried out an A service. Load of waffle about it not being important and all ok with MB.
This was it 4th service, no1 was a B and the last 3 are A. Confused and not sure what the cost difference is between the two types. Did I pay for B and only got A.
E class estate, reg Feb 2017.

Basically, service schedule is A B A B A B etc, with additional time-related jobs.

B is as per A plus the pollen filter.

In addition, every 2-years, so usually with a B-service, brake fluid.

Every 4 years, air filter, fuel filter (diesel) and plugs (petrol), so generally with every other B-service.

Pan roof every 3-years

That's about the gist of it.

Mercedes ESS will show what's due BUT that only works if serviced and correctly updated by someone with access to MB's electronic service system.

( + ATF interval varies dending on gearbox type)

Did I pay for B and only got A.

It certainly looks the way. Service B includes more things being checked, and also from memory one of the cabin filters gets replaced but I am not 100% sure.

I would kick-up a fuss demand that the dealer carries-out a proper Service B, and records it on the MB DSB as such.

I would be more interested to know what has actually been done - ie a list of replacement parts. The starting point is an oil and filter change plus visual inspection eg brakes - and for some services that could well be it. £430 is a bit steep for that imho. Then, depending on the time and mileage there will be air filter(s), fuel filter, pollen filter, brake fluid, spark plugs (for the rare petrols) ATF change, sunroof lube, coolant change (but not until 15 yrs) and probably a few things I have forgotten.
If you have not got the MB recommended intervals in the car documentation then I would ask the MB dealer for that info. Then check back through the historic services to see what was done when - then you will always know what is coming next and what you should be paying for. I'm afraid it is not as simple as A or B service - every service could be a different scope depending on how the time and mileage works out.

Looking over the history printouts for the last 3 A services. All had oil and filter replaced.
2019 had a dust filter - 15,000 miles
2020 had a air filter & fuel filter - 25,000 miles
2021 (today) had brake fluid and panaramic roof lubrication - 33,000 miles

Possibly all items are changed as schedule requires rather than if its A or B booked in. Can not see anything on gearbox service though.

A service is oil change and inspections.
B service is A service plus more inspections.
A service plus MoT is more than B service.

Everything else is time and/or mileage related and not part of an A or B service.

Looks like all parts are within their time frame. I will need to investigate what a MB dealer would quote for A or B service to understand the financials. Reception had quoted £430.00 which included a FREE MOT.

Thanks for everyone's input.

You can get an automated quote from them online:

Also, as has been pointed out, your car should have had the following so far:

2018 - A
2019 - B
2020 - A
2012 - B

If it was the same dealer who serviced the car so far, then you should ask them how they managed to mess-up the MB service schedule.

If anyone is interested I got the automated quote suggested by markjay showing next is a B service for 323.05.
My service was A with plus package. Invoice - @165.60 + vat then the oil, etc - 101 then brake fluid, etc- 69.00 and lastly the sunroof - 23.00. All plus vat = 430. 81

I was quoted 430.81 when booking in.

If I use the online quote of 323.05 + the above extras = 433.61

So similar outcome and all items carried out as per the B service items shown on that online quote.

When I contact them it seems a B was carried out but clerical error showing it was A.

Thanks all.Nothing more to be said now until I get their reply .Will post it if I think it may be of interest to others going for their service.

Dear Sirs
Yesterday I had my car serviced at Lakeside .It was booked in for a B .My invoice shows A service carried out. The history print out now shows a B service in 2018 and the following three all as A services including yesterdays.

Did I overpay for the A service considering I was quoted for a B service ?
Is the service history now at fault considering it should run A-B,A-B,A-B ?
Are there any outstanding items that should have been carried out such as filters, gearbox ?

Happy with my experience and customer service whilst the work was carried out just confused with the paperwork .

Thanks

12 months/25k km: A is oil and filter with pollen filter
24 months/50k km: B is oil and filter, pollen and air filter

and repeat sequence every 12 months/25k km but add as appropriate:

Every two years - change brake fluid (so normally with a B service)
Every three years - fuel filter
At 5 years/120k km - 9 speed auto oil/filter

Once out of guarantee give the dealer oil (20 litres of MB 252.1 for £80 from gsf is much better than £25/litre my German dealer wants to charge me) and parts (gsf are about 20% of the MB price for the branded part that is actually in the MB box). Get stamp in book and keep mobilo guarantee active.
