Hi

I was cleaning my car this weekend and noticed a tiny bubble on my front offside wheel. Today I took it in to MB Swindon - discussed the demise of service + which he thought was better value than a used car warranty - and he found the smallest of bubbles (I had missed it) on the other front wheel.

He sent photos off to MB and I have just received a phone call authorising two new wheels. I asked if I could buy the old ones to have them refurbished but was informed that MB will scrap them.

All in all I think a good result as I had only expected MB to refurbish the one wheel.

Same happened with my wheels. They spotted the problem and fixed it, no hassles at all.

Service +?

Has Service Plus now been discontinued? If it is, its a shame as I agree that it is good value, especially given some of the problems that have come to light recently. Probably the unloved accountant guy again!!

Regards,

Ernie

What a total waste! Demand to buy them back

How? On what grounds?

They are faulty and are being replaced, that's all that's required to happen:confused:

Yes but why waste perfectly driveable alloys?

How do you know they are driveable? They are corroding from the inside out. Ok chances are they would be OK but what MB choose to do with them is up to them surely? I'd rather substandard wheels were removed from the wheel gene pool than left to fester and perhaps cause problems for some innocent down the line ;)

My replacement wheels are now four years old and apart from where I wrecked one on a kerb have no bubbles or marks of any kind - ie in perfect safe condition. Ones that bubble within such a short time suggest there was something wrong somewhere in their manufacture.

But another consideration is actually that you don't get new wheels back but refurbs anyway and they are supposed to be better than the original wheels. So I would expect that as long as these wheels are sound then they would be refurbed by MB and reissued as apt. If they are not then they should scrap them.;)

My wheels are 48,000 miles old..... and nearly 2 1/2 years old ...replaced no questions or quibbles....I just wish all 4 had bubbled....lol...

Oh well two new fresh ones to go kerb and cry over...:D

I can't DEMAND to buy something that will not be available to purchase...

MB scrap all warranty replacement items as a matter of course....:)

You cannot DEMAND to buy anything, all you can do is make an offer to purchase. The choice is up to the seller, regardless of monies offered.

DEMAND is a very strong word which should be used with great care, as there are few instances where it is appropriate.

When I had my shop and someone demanded something, I would say "I do not wish to sell that today" and that was the end of it

I've just had 3 of mine photographed, similar mileage and age as yours. I bet I had the same guy doing the pictures!!

Still waiting to hear, your success gives me hope :)

Had them photographed at 2.00 pm and then had the phone call at 3.30 pm...to be honest one hs such a tiny bubble I had missed it - I really thought they would just offer to refurbish them so was shocked and pleased that they said they were going to replace them with two new ones...especially as they had a little curbing on them too.....

Good luck with yours...

How new/old does a MB have to be for its alloys to be replace if they bubble?

I am within the three year unlimited mileage warranty.......so assume that is the answer..

You got lucky as any scuff/damage/kerbing invalidates a claim normally!

The bubbles were where the spokes hit the centre so not affected by kerbing the edge..... but I was just expecting a refurb..so its a result:rock:
