A rusty 210226

Or we can just choose not to agree thats perfectly ok as well

Looking under my car yesterday , its not the grade of steel that i'm concerned about but the poor paint coverage and unsuitable materials , where the car has been treated correctly there is no rust where the paint is thin and poorly applied with no underseal there is corrosion

If the steel was the problem the corrosion would be more uniform imo.

Not that it matters its kinda like having to choose to be punched in the face or in the testicles, either way its not nice:):):)

Either way my friend it does not make that much difference, corrosion under the paint will push it off.

What annoys me is the time span that MB had to put this right,, we all know that MB hit paint problems ín 1987 roughly, the rust on the 210 from 10- 2005 till 2002 is along time,, some rusty 211 did not inspire that much confidence either.

The photos I put up are from an 01 car

Corrosion 2001 210 Saloon Mobilo Warranty?

Hi
Just received my car back from a B service (£547.00). I've owned it from new and it has a full MB Franchise Service History. I have noticed bubbling on all 4 wheel arches each one affecting the whole arch. A bubble on one alloy wheel...what's that about? Bubbles on the bonnet and corrosion on the door bottoms under/near to seals. The car has some stone chip damage however this is completely different.

The car is booked into the MB franchise next week for photographs to be taken. Does anyone have any experience of MB UK when in this situation as to whether the 30 Year Mobilo Warranty is actually worthwhile?

I would imagine that the majority of 7 year old cars have moved out of franchise servicing hence maybe the franchises don't actually experience too many of this age?

One more question. In order for the Mobilo to be kept up does the car have to be serviced by a franchised dealer?

I'll let you know how I get on.

MB have accepted responsibility for repairing all corrosion on my 2001 210 Saloon. It goes into bodyshop in a few weeks and they tell me they will want it for 3 to 4 weeks.

I was told that the Russians paid for the car plant that Fiat set up for them in the seventies with steel. This steel was supposed to be from new iron ore. But in fact what was supplied was from recycled steel and iron which contained a lot of other substances. This is why Italian cars of the seventies rusted as soon as they were exposed to the air.
Honda were also supplied with the same stuff and Accords from the same period also rusted like Fiats!
This may well be a total fantasy, I have no actual evidence. But it sounds plausible...

Nearly all steel is made from a high percentage of recycled steel. Once the slag has been skimmed there aren't many impurities left.

Just some pics of a rusty 210226 car there were only 5 stone chips on the bonnet, the rest is lousy metal.

TV,are your sure this is a 210226 as I can`t make out the indicators in the wingmirrors?
Mine is 210206 and manufactured in October 2002.

It is a facelift (bumpers, bonnet, mirrors, seats, kickplates) so must be post '99.

Thanks Dieselman..............very worrying.
No sign of rust on mine yet................... ,but I do keep looking.
Built in Austria? (Gratz) with steel from I don`t know where. Doors, tailgate and wheelarches are ok. 103,000 miles and running quieter and smoother than ever.
