A sad sight

Sadly , the gentleman who owns the scrapyard where they have lain for a number of years steadfastly refuses to sell either of the cars , nor even any parts from them .

Derek,

I don't see what he has to lose, they are well beyond redemption, unless someone has VERY Deep Pockets and an Endless source of Income! :dk:

I'm surprised that some or all of the Bits and Pieces haven't been "Spirited Away" Unless he has a Wild Rotty roaming about at night!

I agree - when I first saw them they were more or less intact , and surrounded by Silver Shadows and other upmarket cars .

Now the yard has closed down and these are about all that remain , plus there are holes in the fence , hence I was able to take the photos .

I suspect parts will now go missing .

Here's one in better condition - Beirut of all places ( lots of classic mercy there ) .

And , if a different marque floats your boat , how about this XK150 ( triple carbs ) lying next door to my office ?

There's even a compressor to do the paintwork !

Actually the place was a bodyshop which closed down , and this was apparently left on the premises ; there was also a W140 , which was complete but was vandalised over a couple of years until almost nothing left of it .

Another "Barn Find" The Spoked Wheels look in not too bad condition and the Chrome Bumpers look as if they could be refurbished, there's probably someone out there desperate to get their hands on some of that stuff!

Years ago I worked with a chap who had owned a Jag, 140 or 150, I suppose it was the 50s or 60,s he was travelling at night to the west country through the New Forest, belting along headlights blazing, when suddenly a huge bang, the windscreen iimmediately turned red, he stopped. He'd hit one of the forest pony's which was now strewn dead on the road, the cars wired front wheels had collapsed on their spokes, though fortunately he wasn't too badly injured and could still walk. Mind you, he said there aren't may places you can walk to in the middle of the night in the forest with a dead horse. Eventually someone turned up to help. Happy days.

My grandfather owned an XK150S drop-head coupe (with the reg. plate S150) from new - he had a buckled wire wheel on his garage wall as a memento after hitting a new roundabout that he'd failed to notice on one of his favourite roads!

There's a website called XKdata.com that tracks all the XK120/140/150 cars ... there will probably be an entry on it for that one. I stumbled across the site a few years back and was amazed to see a set of pictures of S150 from the '60s which had apparently been found at a car boot sale. My dad was able to say where they'd been taken and when:

XK Data - T827426 - Jaguar XK120, XK140, XK150 information, articles, photos and register

Very sad to see those cars rotting away.

I tried searching on that site , and attempted to upload info , but without success .

A sad sight indeed. I had an XK120 DHC a million years ago when in my late teens. Can you imagine what the insurance would be for a teen now! Even back then (in the mid 60s) the bodywork was suffering a bit, but the engine was fantastic. It only had twin SUs but I must have spent as long balancing them as today’s kids spend on computer games. I couldn’t find it on the XK Data site so I can only assume it ended up in the great junkyard in the sky :(

This XK150 was banger raced a few years ago:

Classic Cars Talks: November 2011

It was incomplete when purchased by the racers who then sold further parts to enthusiasts prior to the race. It received plenty of punishment on the day but was apparently sold afterwards for "restoration" whereby a new car is created using modern replacement parts based on the identity of an original car. Paddy's broom and all that but with high value cars it's financially worthwhile.

Looks like Ponto had a go at robbing the front number plate.

Big thread on Piston Heads about that one HERE, it's coming together quite nicely, or was on the last update back in June. It has taken around 8 years mind...

W189 - he says. I thought the W numbering was more or less chronological. What have I missed?

He turned the ignition key so far round I thought for a moment he was winding it up.

The six cylinder Pontons were W180 ( apart from the W105 ! ) , and the earlier , separate chassis model was the W187 , and then the 300SL ( closely related to the Adenauer , some of which were W186 ) was a W198 - confused - you will be .

And then the W125 was a GP car , not to be confused with W124 or W126 , and none of the three had much in common at all , beyond the badge they wore !

OK , here are a few more , in various states of repair , mainly not too far away from me .
